How on earth do I use shield battery booster?
a while ago some of you might've remember I posted about an overclock (plasma burster missiles) because I didn't know how to use them. Well, here is my other favorite weapon with another OC I just don't know how to use. SSB has downsides that extremely frustrating with upsides that I love. Its nice having extra fire rate and damage while keeping accuracy and ammo unlike Overturned particle accelerator. Unlike OPA the downsides are something I can't stand! I take A tiny amount of fall damage and then BAM! I wish using OPA. I must be doing something wrong. This must be a skill issue, right? I find OPA much more practical, but I know SBB has its fans, so could you guys help me?

LOL, I made a post on their discord that wasn't 100% supportive of SBB and was flamed hardcore.

I guess only the leetest of the leet use it.

I prefer impact deflection for swarm clearing.

The entirety of the Discord can basically be summed up as either getting your build flamed, or flaming someone else's build lol.

Pretty much.

yeah that sounds like the drg discord
Be sure to wear the dawn of the dread armor for maximum efficiency :D
I think it needs a buff, make it "Shields at >90%." 100% is too unforgiving with things like thorns, swarmers, cacti, fall damage, etc.
I tried it for a day or so and never touched it again.

My shield is supposed to be a tool that supports my aggressive playstyle, not a baby I should be taking care of.

I'm not interested in giving up my ability to grapple around 100% freely just to do a bit more damage. It's at most barely on par with the horde clearing ability of m1000 anyway.

Yep. Some leeway like this would be most welcome. I tried it again to see if overheat reload would improve my time with this OC but its same misery of tiny taps happening all too often.

And OPA with ammo node against SBB with damage just rubbs it in. Literally same stats. One lets and forces to stay far and safe while other rewards and thrives in constantly dashing around with impunity.
i'd never use SBB and OPA isn't very good either. TEF imo is the best Drak OC

OPA isn’t good? What on earth are you talking about?
It's got too much punishment for its reward, considering there are 2 maps with practically unavoidable damage (Hollow Borrough, Magma Core), 3 maps with great potential to take some form of damage (Fungus Bogs, Radiation one I forgot the full name, Dense Biome), leaving only 5 maps that it's more reliable (Glacial Strata, Crystalline Cavern, Salt Pits, Azure Weald and Sandblasted Corridor)

So in essence it's only 50% useful on the tooltip due to biome restrictions, then there's the possible chance of you taking hits from ally which also completely disable the bonus and leaves you with a worse than stock Drak (due to higher heat per shot)

To buff it I think all it has to do is make it either be active when your shield is over 80%, or make it gain bonus proportional to the shield you have (10% increment starting at 50%), basically like the heat based OC but checks for shield % instead of heat %
It is entirely possible to maintain SBB even on maps like Hollow Bough and Magma core. Difficult, but possible. You have to play more cautiously in general with SBB, but it pays off both in damage and in survival. It actually teaches some really good habits as scout.

Some more useful tips beyond "get good", I pair SBB with Bodkin crossbow. Whenever I take damage, I try to switch to the crossbow. What I absoutely do NOT want to do is keep shooting the Drak. If I'm not at 100% shield, I generally won't fire the Drak unless there's no other option.

Bodkins are great at clearing grunts and making space for me to recover, cryo grenades if it's swarmers bothering me instead. Larger enemies you can generally just grapple away from without too much issue, but a taser bolt or two keeps them from following if you need it. I'm also running max speed grapples, which means giving up the extra fall damage protection. Shields have the long delay-fast regen, and I spec into extra health instead of extra shield, both of which help ensure that I'm at back at 100% shield quicker.

Obviously you never want to overheat the drak if you have SBB, since that not only breaks your shield but also reduces your dps in the process, but personally I still prefer to take Manual Heat Dump over Thermal Feedback Loop. The extra fire rate can lead to accidentally overheating the gun more often and it's really not needed anyway. Technically you can manual overheat at half, which will trigger your shield recharge to start much earlier provided you had at least SOME shield when you did it, but it's almost impossible to improve your overall regen time that way.

https://drg.mod.io/weapon-heat-crosshair also helps a ton with the overheating problem. I HIGHLY recommend this mod for pretty much anyone as every class has heat based guns and they are all great. It's a "Verified" mod so you can use it on any server without affecting anyone else or limiting who can join.
Shield Battery Booster also does not function at all in Shield Disruption warnings, which may be something to keep in mind when doing Elite/ Deep Dives blind as you have just effectively gimped your gun.

I think people who try to use it focus too much on NEVER getting hit.
Problem is, if you don't focus on not getting hit, you're going to get hit. And the upsides become pretty much useless the moment you take even 1 damage. With that big of a downside, if you're not constantly trying to avoid damage, you are going to be wasting the upsides of the overclock around maybe ~60% of the time, and that's being generous.

If you never get hit, then you can't die! And the build is definitely strong enough that you get plenty of kills in spite of (or because of) all the focus on never getting hit.
