Title is a joke and just for attention. Anyway! Noticed the game was on sale, and have been eyeing this game up for a while now watching videos but also restricting so I get to experience stuff without prior knowledge if I do end up picking up the game.
I was mainly wondering what is this game like for solo players? I don’t typically have people to play with and can get pretty anxious talking in public lobbies in basically any game. So I find it hard to justify spending money on something which may not be any good solo. Are there any downsides to playing solo, or even positives?
Also would anyone potentially be interested in playing a few games together as well as maybe giving me a few pointers if I do end up picking up the game before the sale ends

So solo actually works very well, You get a little robotic helper named Bosco, who actually could do a lot of things and can actually sometimes out perform a real player.

I played solo for a huge chunk of my playtime, and then switched over to Public once I felt more comfortable with it.

I played over 100 hours solo before feeling confident enough to hop into random public matches.

Stay on Hazard 2 or 3 until you are confident that you can carry a whole team all by yourself.

Just have fun and explore.

Always press TAB to use your Terrain Scanner (map). Always press Ctrl to use your Laser Pointer, which will highlight important stuff thru walls for a brief period of time.

The terrain will get you killed way more often than the bugs. Learn to navigate it with all the tools the Dwarfs have at their disposal.

You're gonna do great, miner. Now get to work.

The game isn't terrible solo, since you get a AI buddy called Bosco, and you can also get a perk that allows you to have a pet named "Steeve" as well. COOP is much more fun though, and the game makes it very easy to just jump in with other players, so you do not need friends, and may even make a few along the way.

When solo you get a friendly flying robot named Bosco. He can help defend you, mine minerals and carry resources to you, provide light, revive you a couple times per mission, and more.

You can join others' lobbies or host missions yourself and leave them open for others to join. The game scales up the number of bugs, their damage, and durability based on the current amount of players. Players can revive each other as many times as they want, but the mission will fail if everyone goes down at the same time. Just remember to share resupplies with the team.

As for communication, most people rarely chat, but there is a robust pointer system. Point at enemies to highlight them and call out for their extermination. Point at objectives to highlight it and alert teammates to it. Point at resources to alert teammates to them. Point at a mushroom to inform everyone that it's a mushroom.

And most importantly, there is the V button to Rock and Stone! It's the cornerstone of positivity.

What’s the majority of the community like? I’d hate to finally work up the courage to then get put down pretty quickly by others or is the community pretty chill? Obviously every game has complete knob heads, but in general did you have mostly pleasant experiences with the people in public lobbies

Community is very positive. As long as you're not actively sabotaging a mission, you'll rarely have any problems. In nearly 1400 hours, I've met maybe a half-dozen jerks.

I could probably count on one hand the amount of actual toxic moments in 1000 hours.

Course I’m a casual and don’t really muck around with a lot of the harder difficulties, but even when I do venture there, it tends to be pretty chill.

I can 100% see myself dying to environment even by being cautious with the scanner, but in terms of solo what’s the life system like? Is it one and done or can you respawn a couple of times?

Yeah they’ll pick you up a couple of times depending on upgrades.

Baseline is two, but you can put it up to three.

As RENGOKU said, you get 2 revives from your robot companion by default and can upgrade him to revive you up to 2 extra times for a total of 4.

So, 5 lives max, but you likely won't need more than one, if you're playing on the right difficulty.

If you are familiar with FPS games, Haz 3 should be okay. But if you want to relax and explore the caves more than fight, then I recommend Haz 2.

You have a somewhat weak regenerating shield, and a moderate amount of health. Your shields can absorb a few hits from weaker bugs, but heavier hitters or long falls can really hurt. Health is generally restored through finding a specific red crystal occasionally found through the map, or from using a resupply. There is also a perk that makes melee kills restore health. You also regenerate up to a certain amount of health depending on your difficulty.

I think Bosco can revive you twice per mission (or up to 2 additional times with certain upgrades).

Not a lot of people use voice chat in this game anyways (assuming that's what you meant) as the ping system is what most people use to communicate with each other.

Other than that, there are certain events (like defense on Salvage missions) that you have to manually start that trigger swarms and players often just type "R?" or "R" (short for ready) to the chat box whenever they feel ready to hit it. And if you're uncertain you can always wait for the host to press the buttons, assuming that you're not the host yourself. Follow this simple etiquette and you'll be totally fine.
