I'd really like custom in game icons for the dwarfs
I think it would be cool seeing my actual dwarfs cosmetics, colours and whatnot rather than the generic stock icons I've looked at for hundreds of hours now :er_uwu:

Dev's prototyped it internally and didn't like it, apparently it looked awful.

That said, there are lot's of different icon options available as mods.

Part of the point of the icons is so other players immediately know what class you are.

The colored outline could do that well enough, would be neat if the DLCs and late game prestige armor sets came with an icon to match though.

I would say it's also an issue with colour vision. Certainly the game offers plenty of options to account for that, but people who can genuinely only see in greyscale won't benefit from any of those, so the icon graphics need to have unique shapes. It's a design principle in itself, kind of like how for example in Team Fortress 2 each class has an immediately recognisable silhouette so you know at a glance whether it's a Heavy, a Scout, or a Spy who forgot to disguise himself.

Not too hard either; triangle for driller, hexagon for engi, square for gunner, and circle for scout.
