How good are modded public lobbies?
Especially ones you're hosting. I had a 16-player mod the other day and hosted public lobbies all the time, but nobody ever joined them. I've always had verified mods installed and I figured I'd try installing an approved mod because some of the approved mods seem fun, but I was always worried because modded lobbies are basically separate, and I don't know what percentage of DRG's playerbase joins modded lobbies.

Is just better to stick with verified-only/unmodded?

I would guesstimate that somewhere between 5-10% of players use Approved mods, so yeah; you might have to wait a bit for joiners.

If you want full lobbies and quick game starts, you're prolly better off sticking to Verified.

Most randos sadly don't usually join modded lobbies, which I think is partially because you can't see the mods the host uses. Modded lobbies only really work with a dedicated team

Which makes sense, I guess. But it sucks because there's a lot of really fun-looking approved mods and it'd just be nice to get people to play.

I could probably make an LFG post, but it's not like I want to randomly friend Steam users just to play, y'know? That's why I like public lobbies so much, because it's just no hassle to do.

The problem is that the odds of you finding 3 other people who share your exact same tastes in mods and what constitutes fun; are slim to none.

Yeah. Every time I've played DRG I've always hosted, I haven't tried joining people mid-mission so I dunno how the server browser stuff works, if it doesn't show you what mods a modded lobby is running, that kinda sucks. That'd probably help a lot, I'd imagine.

that's because official integration is complete ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ and actively tries to work against you if you go any further than verified mods
if you want to run approved/sandbox mods you need to get MINT

just please don't use this to "disguise" your lobbies as regular verified lobbies if you're running game or balance changing mods. make it clear it's modded in your lobby name.

I'm pretty sure it forces the MODDED tag into you lobby title, to be fair.

not sure about that, i just know some people do use client side approved/sandbox mods when joining non modded lobbies, and i run a sandbox mod myself, and that is only to enable old assigments - doesnt affect anyone else's game, but it seems my lobby also isnt counted as modded
If someone can confirm wether it forces a modded tag or not when using bigger mods, that would be appreciated. i fear something like 40 nitra resups might not.

Well if I ever have an approved mod, it shows my name in the top right and says (modded). Not sure how my lobby looks to everyone else.

keep in mind we're talking about mint, not the in-game integration, but a sideloader that completely bypasses the approved and sandbox system - which is how i'm running the sandbox mod to enable old assigments while still playing with other people.

Like i pointed out above - currently we're talking about mint which bypasses the approved and sandbox system

You would not be "downloading" their mods if they had something that required a download, more than likely your game would just crash if necessary assets were missing
my concern is mods such as 40 nitra resupply

your lobby title is forcibly appended as "[MODDED]" regardless of what mods you use when running MINT, even if you only run verified mods. there is no way to circumvent this
most approved mods also don't work as a client because MINT doesn't have the capacity to force your mods onto the host. of course there are exceptions, but they are an extremely small minority

believe it or not, MINT users are not out to "trick" you into joining their modded lobbies, they just want a form of modding that actually works properly and isn't plagued with ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥

i've had a friend check this and my lobby was definitely not marked as modded

then i don't know what to tell you. unless you mean MINT lobbies aren't segregated in the way official integration does to lobbies with approved/sandbox mods, in which case that's intentional
