Maybe ditch P2P and opt into getting dedicated servers?
I cant tell you how many times Iv gotten randomly disconnected mid-match and couldn't reconnect due to the hosts lobby just being gone or it being full. P2P is good to save money but bad because ♥♥♥♥ like that happens. Please Ghost Ship Games please.

Wireless connections are prone to interference which leads to packet loss, which leads to unstable connections, which leads to you loosing the connection to the server. Not to mention that you share a connection with others to the same uplink, so CSMA/CA plays a role as well.

So it wouldn't matter if it's P2P or a dedicated server.
Get a stable wired connection and you will have a better experience.

No. Host yourself and/or get a better connection.

I mean, I get you, but we just had the sixth anniversary. They're not going to make a change like that after six years. They're not going to make any big changes after that long.

Yeah, if you get DC'ed, it's not. It does not matter what type your connection is or how fast it is, if you get disconnects all the time, your connection is bad.

Sorry, but p2p is definitely the way to go for small coop games like this.
And I don't want to deal with some always online crap either.
Sick of being unable to play HD2 every time there's steam maintenance or their servers die because they screw up an update.

Can it really be done so easily ? I mean the game was based on p2p and it had been 6 years already, I can't imagine how much it would take changing the whole system

Dedicated servers work fine in Left 4 Dead.
Valve admittedly have more resources than GSG. A lot more.

Servers would be prohibitively expensive for an indie game of this kind that already demands so little money from you. The answer to disconnects has always been to either play with friends who will give you time to reconnect, or always host your own missions.
Cathulhu Mar 28, 2024 @ 2:21am
And someone would need to run and maintain those servers. That costs money. Surely, you'd be willing to pay a subscription fee to keep those servers running, right?
No?
Then P2P it is.
