Also, cores are a reward thing for occasional assignments.
Plus, new players can earn matrix cores for completing promotions.
Don't remember if previously cores were given for forging level or not, but makes sense to forge them as you earn them, so you can get an extra core.

leveling is all there is, everything else is time gated but you can level as much as you want. there is also the forging which will reward you a blank core after you unlock everything so.

2 blank cores per promo assuming you have everything unlocked and i get ballpark 16 promos per week so 32 blank cores a week not counting the dives and the mission.

speed running 2xp farms with a dedicated team on 5 is best but randoms tend to slow you down so knock it down to haz 4 for randoms

Outside of special events, yes that's it for blanks. I've always thought they should speed up the OC gating for newer players. The weapons are bad enough, but if you want a certain cosmetic skin or weapon paint you may have to go through 30-40 beard OCs until you get something you actually wanted.
