stop calling it "a rock and stone"
it's a salute. it's clearly meant to be a salute. it's even called a salute in the keybindings. rock and stone is what you say when you salute, it's not the name of the act itself. it just sounds wrong and slightly cringeworthy to call it "a rock and stone". we don't refer to military salutes as "an at ease" because that would be equally stupid

yes this is an extremely specific and meaningless complaint, but it's not like there's anything else happening in the game that's worth talking about

there seems to be some confusion in the replies, so let me be clear: i'm not saying the mere act of saluting is a bad thing. far from it. i only take issue with how the action itself is sometimes described as a tagline rather than a proper noun

What's the phrase the dwarves say? "If you don't rock and stone, you ain't coming home"

Perhaps the real salutes were the stones we rocked along the way.

extremely based and anti-fun-pilled

Wait...people call it that?

I think the confusion comes from the Dwarf line, "Did I hear a rock and stone?" This is the equivalent of saying, "Can I get a hell yeah??" which is closer to what "rock and stone" is, than any sort of military salute.

In that context it's actually rather acceptable. The Dwarves also say "If you don't rock-and-stone, you ain't comin' home" which could be translated to, "If you don't 'Hell yeah,' you ain't coming home" which is... a little awkward, but still understandable.

They're Dwarves anyways. Expecting them to be literate or not speech-slurringly drunk at any given moment is on you.

Def a rock and stone

This game's community is mostly redditors. Expecting Redditors to act like functional human beings and not be incredibly socially awkward is a big ask.
DID I HEAR A ROCK AND STONE!?!?

first of all, they added the "if you don't rock and stone, you ain't coming home" in response to a meme.[i.redd.it] calling it rock and stone in this context makes sense because it's done for the purpose of creating alliteration

my issue is not when the tagline is used in the context of asking for a salute. my issue is when the tagline is considered the name for the saluting action. the etymology doesn't make sense

There's still the other lines, like "Did I hear a rock and stone?" or "Gimme a rock and stone!" Again, I don't think it's that big a deal. Replace "rock and stone" with "hell yeah" and it makes sense.

I'm unsure if you're actually upset over this or if this is a joke thread for now, so I'll answer like you mean it, lol.
