The first game you had
I was having a conversation with another forum user some days ago and we ended talking about older computers and what games we played. I thought about it and considered that since we have some older more mature people here, it would be interesting to see what got you fellas started?

My first game, WAY back then was on the Commodore Vic-20, and it was this graphical masterpiece:

The sounds! The explosions! The immersion! Truly A Game!

Far as my memory serves, my first game was Mario Kart 64 sometime in the late 90s. At a pretty prestigious pizza restaurant (Peppes Pizza, exclusive to Scandinavia) they had a playing area which included a N64 with the aforementioned game running. I didn't know how the ♥♥♥♥ to play the game, so I was stuck at the final area of DKs Jungle Parkway by driving the wrong way, not knowing how to continue while driving in circles lmao, same thing when they also had Diddy Kong Racing, didn't play since.

Next year when on vacation, the trans-continental flight had a monitor on the seat for games, one of those being a bootleg copy of Super Mario World, and after rediscovering the bootleg I now know for a fact that the game was nearly impossible to play, so it wasn't just me not "getting it". During my stay my parents got me and my brother a Gameboy Colour with Super Mario Bros. Deluxe for me (a "remaster" of the original SMB with extra collectibles and mini games), and Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons for my brother. Again the games were difficult to understand and get to grips with, but after a few days of playing it eventually clicked for me. I also got one of those 40 games in 1 cartridges that included Super Mario Land 2 and Wario Land 3, the later I enjoyed more (which probably explains why DRG was a great fit for me, I love being greedy).

Those were my first games I played and owned. The later years I got a PS1 with Rayman 1 and Crash Bandicoot 3, couldn't beat the first one due to Space Mama's level and boss fight being absurdly difficult, and the later we almost 100%'d. The rest is history, but at least now I can actually complete a lap in MK64 lmao

You mean the Lost Vikings. It's a pretty big inspiration for DRG - just look at the default scout design: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jcqziDlhhRI

my dad used to collect demo discs for games from magazines and the like. one time he brought home some racing game for the PC. i don't remember the name because my dad called it "harvey cars" instead of its actual title for some reason. not sure if it was a popular series like forza or gran turismo, or if it was some no-name knockoff of those franchises

we had a PS2 in the house as well and one day my dad brought home a disc that had a demo for the first ratchet & clank game. that was the first time i really sunk my teeth into a video game

Had to look up when Ratchet & Clank was published and now I feel a tad old.. 22 years ago, I still remember quite vividly playing it with my younger siblings.

it's funny seeing how many people are posting games from the mid-late 80s, and only seeing a couple others my age posting stuff from the late 90s/early 00s

my first game of DRG:
host a game as scout
2 drillers and 1 legendary engineer joins, not sure what a guy of that level is doing on haz 2 but ok.
the escape sequence begins and i get lost, so i just pickaxe a straight wall to the drop pod. meanwhile the drillers get slaughtered and the engineer dies trying to save them.
that was when i knew i was a driller main

My first console was an Atari with the wood paneling and a switch to change it between black and white or color haha; depending on if the TV you were using had color or not.

I can't remember all the games we had for it, but my favorite was Defender:

I didn't have that one, but the planes really remind me of "Combat":

I was Born in '72, and while I had the Entire 80's Gaming Experience with Arcades, the Atari 2600, Intellivision, the Later Nintedo NES, and Commodore 64 Home Computer Games, My Dad had somehow found and gotten an even Earlier Atari System that came our before the 2600, back in '78 right after Pong was the 1st Big Arcade Game-

I don't remember, or even know if that Atari System had a Numerical Designation, or Name, we just called it 'The Breakout Game'- It had 7 Set Games in it, no Cartridges then, Breakout,
a Faster Breakout with 3 Paddles that were smaller, Pong, 2 types of Cheesy Early Video 'Pinball' that were actually fun to play, and 2 types of a 'Basketball' Game that was Terrible- 95% of the Time we just Played the 1st Game Breakout, and what was Cool about that System was it was a wide, rectangular Console-Type, but it had a Left and Right Button Built-In to the sides for 'Pinball', and a Circular Knob Built In to the Center-Right for Breakout- The Type of Knob you would see Later on the Arcade Game 'Tempest'- So you just Pushed 'Start' and used 1 Button to Launch the Square Pixel 'Ball' and then it was all the Circular Knob, so you could be Quite Precise with your Control of the 'Paddle' at the Bottom of the Screen

My Parents Divorced when I was 11, so around '84, and the 2600 was out bu then, and Later we had the NES around '88 so I was on to those and Arcade Machines- But that Console Version of Breakout has always stuck in my Memories, and the Later 2600 Version and
PC Emulators STILL didn't Fully Capture the Control on Breakout that '78 Game System had- We would pull it out at my Dad's at Times, I think it worked well into the 90's- I can't remember when he got rid of it, or if it just Failed and Broke eventually

Good Times:steamhappy:

Could your dad have said "RV cars?" That might help you narrow it down.

Exactly this one, yeah. My old man had one of those 50-in-1 collections that were just the same small handful of games.

My dad didn't play it with me, so I messed with the level editor and was introduced to videogames and videogame design in one swoop.
