So i need to invite/know someone playing the game to not play with AI? I cant match with randoms
Personally I just pick the mission I want, and start the game as a multiplayer game. Usually only get to play solo in it for a minute or two before it's filling up.
That's not what peer-to-peer means. It just means that the hosts and clients of a given game session are networked as directly as possible, without contacting any kind of third-party master server. The game will find suitable players for you using Steamworks, though, to set this up, i.e. matchmaking. There's a "server browser" to accommodate this. The only real relevance of "peer-to-peer" here is that you'll be joining people's sessions that are in progress, not a dedicated server that's sitting empty.
You also have a lot of freedom getting to pick which games you do or don't want to play. It's a list of games in progress. You can filter the difficulty, see which classes the other players are playing, and many other details about the missions you're choosing from.
Matchmaking technology has always been awful. You wait 5 times as long to have the computer put you with someone that you will typically like less than what you would have gotten if you just stumbled into a room randomly.
For you, you are best off going to rooms that already have 3 people and the full server list will give you a variety of easy choices right away.
I'll just add that there is no AI, in the sense of a computer-controlled dwarf. When you're alone, you get a little flying robot to help you. Dwarfs are always controlled by people (normally up to a maximum of 4).
That's not how peer to peer works.
when you pick a mission from the center terminal in the space rig, you can choose to either host your own game or join someone in progress. joining a game mid-way is arguably more convenient, but if you host you don't have to worry about latency and you can kick players if need be. if you host you may want to wait for players to join you in the space rig before you join, or you can just start and play solo (with bosco) for a while until other players show up
if you want to join someone the game will use the server browser to show a list of lobbies running the mission you want to play. you can also use the server browser to view all available lobbies near you
This game's community brags about how great they are, but on god I haven't ever done a Deep Dive with players who I would consider to be mentally stable.

^Under Team, you'd see 4 slots - shows how many dwarves are already in that mission, and what classes they play. Click the row/mission and the screen will lead you to pick a dwarf class for joining that mission.
Pretty good matchmaking system I'd say.
If you're new and you're joining fast randoms, I'd suggest that you learn to play scout at an easier difficulty (Hazard 1-3). Use the flare gun and the terrain scanner to have a sense of the layout. You can also use the tab button to see a map of the cave. Use your grappling hook to move around quickly and follow your teammates. And press Enter to chat in-game.
