Is Fat Boy GL the most meta weapon for Engi?
It seems like every Engi I've played with is using it.

Personally, I refuse to play it because it's pretty OP and makes the game boring.

Fatboy is outright bad on anything but Haz5, there aren't enough enemies to justify it.

Even on Haz5 it's still bad compared to other options, but atleast you can make an argument for bringing it.

That is why you make new enemies like the Scout and roof Eggs.

It's meta in area denial.........................................against dwarfs.

It is the weakest engi's secondary, but it is fun

A lot of people use Fat Boy because it's super satisfying to use. The massive explosion, the atomic cloud, the echoing rumble that persists after every detonation...

However, it's definitely not the strongest PGL overclock. It's good, for sure, especially when used properly on higher hazards, but there are better more broadly useful options.
I'm just not a fan of nuke type weapons. I've seen it ruin a game before.

Still much less obnoxious playing with a nuke demo in kf2 than a nuke engie in DRG

It's great on Caretaker vents and missions where you have to bunker, like Salvage Operation. It's not necessarily the kill amount that it can rack up as much as the area denial.

But, yeah, it's not necessary on lower Hazards, at least once people get the hang of the game.

Yeah, I despise the friendly fire aspect of it, and people tend to be reckless with where they shoot it. Same goes for those Sticky Grenades; lots of Engis just throw them in areas where other players are likely to pass by instead of throwing them at walls and far enough above the player's head so they don't take damage.
Ittrix 27/dez./2023 às 8:05
I wouldn't call it meta.

It halves your ammo in exchange for doing a better initial explosion and adding fallout.

The idea is that you can deal with a wave by using the grenade, then another wave with the fallout, rather than using two grenades on two waves.

The big downside is you can place two separate grenades wherever you want with other builds. If two waves are approaching you from opposite sides, you can just shoot each of them once.
A fat boy will struggle with ammo if it regularly does that. You must take shots that effectively use the fallout or you're 'behind' compared to most builds. Not as bad as it sounds- we all finish missions with extra nitra, but it's the biggun.

The upside is the fallout will generally buy you free time, and the damage is better for bulky targets if the shots happen to line up.
Also mining potential, if we wanna go there.
... and it's fun AF.

The PGL is so good and has such varied roles it's hard to make a call, but I'd probably point at clean sweep / RJ250 for meta.

it's the epitome of caveman mentality "hurr big number make gun good :DDDd" weapon building and it'll never get any changes to make it more useful because of all the unfunny memes that keep getting made about it

it's only good on h6*2 and above because the radiation field actually has time to work through the massively increased enemy density - it also benefits greatly from cheaper resupplies on h6 and above - but really if a weapon only works well in modded difficulties that's a sign it's completely broken at a conceptual level

also shard diffractor is better har har har :bricktherat:

I sometimes use Fatboy OC to shoot Aquaqs crystals for point extraction, loose from the ceiling.
Its satisfying and fun.

For the meta/overpowered part. No you must have gotten a bad experience with and from this overclock, since the majority of players dont use it. And its not even considered that good.
Its decent, because it got a quick time to kill... but thats about it, and thats mostly relevant on hazard 5 or modded games where you have a lot of enemies close together.
Fatboy OC cant even kill Praetorians anymore in a single shot, although its pretty close.

Its mostly a fun pick, players tend to go back to every once in a while for the big boom. But most players have different loadouts they use more frequently.
Mountain King 27/dez./2023 às 9:14
The most overrated OC in the game. You take the built-in AOE upgrades on the PGL and you already have enough AOE for the groups you're going to realistically encounter. You basically give up all your ammo just for luxury of not having to pull out your primary and finish off a couple guards and slashers. The "area denial" element can be pretty minimal if the next group just doesn't take the same exact path as the first one did and 90% of PUGs don't try to find terrain that will naturally funnel the bugs. Not to mention that non-Fat Boy PGLs are pretty safe to use near teammates, if you see someone surrounded you can drop a round right next to them and the minimal damage they actually take will be far less than taking 5-10 more bites from the glyphids.

Love it or hate it....

That explosion always looks awesome as heck, especially in a huge cavern where you can see the full cloud
