Do players in this game use VC?
I don't have a group so playing with random groups and making friends is what I want to do. Question is do players use VC often in-game?

Not often, no. Sometimes one person using it can coax out another, but generally, no.
They sometimes use text chat, but they've mostly got a language figured out via pinging stuff ingame.

Is it mostly people who are already partied and in a discord call? Or random players that aren't really looking for friends

Well, it’s mostly just cause the ping system works so well you don’t really need to talk.

and this game isnt neccesarily complex enough to where you absolutely need to use your voice

things that are too complex for pinging or otherwise can be accomplished by short text messages, besides its comes up so rarely its not an issue

I see. I have never played before but I assumed it was more chill and a social co-op game. I suppose finding a discord for it and finding people would be better.

Never used V chat in 2,300+ hours played, not needed at all.

Back around the time the game came out, everyone used voice chat. But these days 99.9% don't. I always have mine on and ready to use. But the game makes it fairly easy to communicate almost everything via in-game methods. The few times you need to communicate like when explaining to someone they need to actually HELP with the rockpox cleanup, can usually done via expletives in chat. :P

PS: This only applies to random players, if you find a group to play with via discord or whatever, voice chat is expected of you obviously. As this is usually for doing elite deep dives, or haz 5 where voice coms REALLY help in surviving. Randos usually fail at those badly.

Most people don't bother, the game isn't that complicated and "body language" works plenty fine. Or just use text.

Nobody sane uses or listens to public VC in 2023.

I don't wanna play DRG with someones 3$ mic making noise in my ears, use pings and text chat

i saw two people use a mic. The first time was after i had already put in a solid 50-80 hours. Im sure you can imagine my suprise at hearing someone talk to me after that long. I was actually slighly scared for a solid 15 seconds before realizing it was game voice chat lol.

As a random player, I've seen almost no one use voice chat, as they should. And those times I did, they were using it to meme with a soundboard.

You can readily expect most people to use text chat, however. You can also expect many to be fairly talkative and have a fun time with them.

Yeah as a bunch of people pointed out, the ping system works well so that anyone who would talk dont have to (who woulda thought a voiceline and visual indicator communicated enough). Generally if anyone is talking its because they either;

A) Think someone is not noticing and/or hearing the ping and voiceline.
B) Just prefer talking themselves.

Not true, I do Haz 5's and EDD's with randoms all the time.

On Haz 5 I would say the average failure rate is 1 in 4-5 games.

EDD is more like 1 in 2-3 games.

Maybe one in a hundred but I have voip disabled. Pinging and chat suffice quite well.
