They sometimes use text chat, but they've mostly got a language figured out via pinging stuff ingame.
Well, it’s mostly just cause the ping system works so well you don’t really need to talk.
things that are too complex for pinging or otherwise can be accomplished by short text messages, besides its comes up so rarely its not an issue
Back around the time the game came out, everyone used voice chat. But these days 99.9% don't. I always have mine on and ready to use. But the game makes it fairly easy to communicate almost everything via in-game methods. The few times you need to communicate like when explaining to someone they need to actually HELP with the rockpox cleanup, can usually done via expletives in chat. :P
PS: This only applies to random players, if you find a group to play with via discord or whatever, voice chat is expected of you obviously. As this is usually for doing elite deep dives, or haz 5 where voice coms REALLY help in surviving. Randos usually fail at those badly.
I don't wanna play DRG with someones 3$ mic making noise in my ears, use pings and text chat
As a random player, I've seen almost no one use voice chat, as they should. And those times I did, they were using it to meme with a soundboard.
You can readily expect most people to use text chat, however. You can also expect many to be fairly talkative and have a fun time with them.
A) Think someone is not noticing and/or hearing the ping and voiceline.
B) Just prefer talking themselves.
Not true, I do Haz 5's and EDD's with randoms all the time.
On Haz 5 I would say the average failure rate is 1 in 4-5 games.
EDD is more like 1 in 2-3 games.
