Taking blowthrough and electricity proc will help you with ammo efficiency.
Use 3 round bursts for the electro proc on single targets, try to line up as many bugs as possible for penetrations when dealing with crowds.
Aye cheers i'll try that
even with executor/seeker OC lok1 dont aim weakspot, just the hitbox's center, so its better to aim
Here you go... a build for the pile of options... (my EDD build)
EDIT: seeker rounds.
Usually, I pair it with a 2-2-2-1-1 Shard Diffractor, with the 'Efficiency Tweaks' oc ( small ammo increase and increased charge capacity ), to also benefit from its bonus on enemies electrified by the Lok-1.
This setup works well for me.
As others have noted, it's best getting accustomed to curving your locks lines in order to land weakspot hits; won't always be feasible, but it helps with general efficiency ( plus, I do like doing so; every gun has its unique aspects ).
If you are running those overclocks that go boom or shocks enemies with 3 locks or more, do NOT get the mod that increases your locking window, otherwise on large swarms like on haz 5 you will have so many bugs competing for locks that you will never be able to achieve a lock of 3 or more on a single target.
Once I get ECR I will switch to that tho... to see how nice it clears swarms since Exe Loki is more the HVT gun.. I'm sure it's fun too with all the boom.
Pairs well with with Breach Cutter and Shard diffractor for everything that comes close.. like Breach Cutter more tho.
That said. i dunno how well it does on Haz 5.. I mainly play haz 3 and 4 for now.
2) Pick between [Electrochemical Rounds+Electric Generator Mod] or [Super Blowthrough Rounds+Unstable Lock Mechanism] for beginner builds that represent most of the builds, unless you're using some weird non-synergistic hipster ♥♥♥♥.
3) Pick an OC, you generally try to match the OC's with the T5 mod you chose unless trying some weird minmax. This weapon has no bad OCs. (Just don't use Seeker Rounds with Blowthrough.)
4) Use the bullet line. It's the actual path the bullet takes to the target, so you can use it to hit weakpoints. If you are using Super Blowthrough Rounds, you can target an enemy in the back and drag the bullet line over enemies in the front.
5) Actually use your secondary weapon, turrets, grenades and pickaxe. If your ammo spread is uneven, you're overusing a weapon.
6) If using [Electrochemical Rounds+Electric Generator Mod], consider making your secondary be able to proc fire. The bonus damage applies to each element on the enemy, so
7) Learn targetting priorities. Use Lok1 to kill high-value enemies such as spitters, mactera and slashers.
8) Learn targetting NON-priorities. Seriously, don't use Lok1 on Swarmers, Naedocites, Shredders and parasites. You're effectively expending at least 2x-5x ammo against them via wasted overkill damage. You only do it in an emergency, but seek solutions elsewhere in your kit (secondary, turret, grenades, that one mod that deals AoE damage on shield break). The exception to this is using Explosive Chemical Rounds.

If you want "ammo training" then I would suggest running Executioner Lok1 with Hyper Propellant PGL and Plasma Bursters.
Note that you can use either ammo or damage in T1 for most builds, but ammo is recommended as that's training wheels. The only build that has a hard select into ammo would be Explosive Chemical Rounds OC due to the nature of its mechanics.
Tier 2 window size is personal preference. My "ammo saving" advice would be to use Macro Lens so you don't lock everything on the screen. But really, this is just gameplay style.
And once more: DO NOT USE SMRT.
I disagree. None of the OCs are bad and all are useful. The weapon essentially has 3 clean OCs and 3 Balanced OCs.
It's honestly almost broken how powerful it is, the only limiting factor to LOK-1's impressive power level is ammo is not great
And of course you have to have the right overclock to make it go boom in the 1st place, so keep cranking them cores out
to that end, use macro lens. don't bother with the other choices in tier 2, they're wastes of time. macro lens gives you the precision you need to pick a bug out of a crowd to focus on, which either means dumping shots into them or triggering effects like blowthrough, T5A, ECR etc
Blowthrough with other OCs works but you're relying on too many variables to maximize damage- explosive you just get 3 locks on a target and rise/repeat. It also causes fear. It deletes entire swarmer swarms with 1 bullet. It's really the best all-around primary for engi.
