Random Theory about the Rival Company on Hoxxes

Totally random and unrelated to anything that's been teased/shown about your rivals on Hoxxes, but notice how the dwarves mention a hatred of Elves? The fact that they confirm the existence of elves, and that they're a definite enemy/disliked race by the dwarves of DRG, is it possible that the rivals are an Elven company? Would be cool.

Actually the dev's once said they are Gnomes; but it's debatable whether they were serious or not.

However Gnomes are infamous for being inventors and having advanced technology, while Elves are typically nature lovers and magic users so..

tbh that's equally cool, and yeah i get the stereotype behind elves but who knows? Maybe an Elven rival will show up in a future update that wants to preserve and save the wildlife of Hoxxes

Actual most likely explanation is that they're a front for another company that wants to stake their claim on hoaxes but doesn't have the manpower for it, so they send in robots instead which are disposable and easy to replace

Having said that I would kinda prefer if the rival tech origins were never explained. It would be predictable and lame if it just turned out to be Tolkien esque racial wars
But rhen again robots are ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ lame so maybe it would fit

Gnomes would make a lot of sense. They are underground diggers like Dwarves, and do the tech thing. Even the pre-Tolkien Elves did stuff on the surface world and largely didn't care about underground.

Of course, in the end, it's all about Echo-Gnome-ics.

I agree, I can't see Elves going super-heavy into Tech Like that- some minor, helpful Servant Drones, and Elegant, Precise Laser Guns and Power Swords Yes- Thick, Fully Robotic Minions No- Even in WH40K the Eldar's Tech is mostly "grown" by singing and shaping Wraithbone into Existance from the Elements/Air/Immaterium

(WARNING- This is One of My Long Posts)

Gnomes would be Possible, but I think everyone overlooks the Most Probable and Obvious Race behind the Rival Tech- HUMANS- While there is Lots of Talk In-Game about Elves, Humans would still be the Most Numerous Space-Faring Race in the DRG Scenario- I'd think Orcs/Orks/Space Orks of some kind would be around, and 1 or more seperate Goblin Species as well- But DRG and the Dwarves never mention any Orc or Goblin Hatred as they should be either, it's a Particular Distaste for how Weak and Puny Elves are compared to Dwarves, and how Elves are Less Capapble, both Physically and Technologically

It's also been mentioned several times in the DRG Lore that Dwarves
are the Preferred Workers for a few reasons-

1- Toughness and Endurance, presumably Dwarves function better on High Gravity Worlds, which Hoxxes may or may not be- But Deeper Down Gravity presumably Increases, especially say the Magma Core Region, so Dwarves do better than Humans in that case- In all situations though, Dwarves are Tougher and can take more punishment than Humans

2- Size- Shorter Dwarves move better in tight tunnels and underground areas- Even with all the Expansive, Large Caverns you find in Hoxxes, there are many small, tight tunnels- Dwarves can move and function better than Humans

3- Culture and Genetics- Dwarves Evolved Mainly Underground, some Dwarven Societies Lived their Entire Lives, for Generations, completely Underground, never once seeing the Sun or Daylight- Dwarves are Genetically and Psychologically Pre-Disposed to being Underground, the Stuffiness and Lack of Fresh Air, Affinity for Rock, Stone, Dirt, and Minerals, Can See and Hear better than Humans Underground, and Have Good Direction Sense Underground

4- Technology- Dwarves are Renowned as not just Miners and Living Underground, but as Master Crafters, Jewelers, Weapon and Armor Smiths, and Builders- Certain Types of Tech Humans, Elves, and other Races will be better with or use more than Dwarves, but for the Tech we see and use in DRG, Dwarves would be, and seem to have, Built and Manufactured better Tech than Humans do- Even if a Weapon, Drilling Component, or Piece of Armor or Shielding was actually first Invented and Made by Humans, Dwarves would probably Improve upon that Tech further, or at Least make that Tech more suitable and adapted for Dwarves

So For all those reasons, and more, the DRG Corporation Hires and Uses Dwarves as their Mining Employees, and Dwarves are also Good at Fighting, Combat, and Use of Weaponry to Defend themselves against Hoxxes' Larger than Usual Amount of Hostile Alien Species-
As far as we can all tell, DRG's Workforce seems to be almost 100% Dwarven, or at Least 99%- There might Indeed be a small number of Humans, Gnomes, even Goblins, Orcs or Elves working for DRG (One of my Scout Setups Looks 90% Like a Tau, so I call him my
"Tau Scout", and Roleplay a Single Tau is indeed working for DRG as well) - Overall though It's 99% or more Dwarves, for Many Reasons, but also Dwarves just work and get along better with other Dwarves

As for The DRG Corporate Ownership, Board, Stockholders, Backers, and Management, That could have a Variety of Races Involved- My Guess and Belief is that DRG is still Probably Dwarven Owned and Operated, The "Local" Hoxxes Branch of DRG certainly seems to be, but you never know- Maybe DRG is indeed mostly run by Humans or a Consortium of many Races, and only Hires Dwarves specifically as Miners and Workers, with a sizable number of Dwarves on the Board to better plan and oversee Operations- I'm still thinking that with all the
Tech, Sizes of Weapons and Gear, and especially Pride and Focus on Dwarven Culture, that DRG is either 100% Owned and Operated by Dwarves or 75-85% Owned, and some Humans or Others are Silent Partners and Shareholders used to Provide Money, Resources, and Financial Backing

SO- there are all the Reasons DRG is for all Intents and Purposes, not to mention the Sheer Number of Dwarves working for it, a Dwarven Mining Corporation- But who could be behind the Rival Mining Group and their somewhat Mysterious Robotic Technology? Could be quite a few possible Races, but I think it's Strange so many people just Jump Right To "It's Elves" because of all the Elvish Slander and Sayings the DRG Dwarves have- Again, I don't think Elves would be That into Tech, especially Mining and Exploitative Tech- Orcs and Goblinoid Races,
I don't think they'd create such Advanced Tech, especially with those Design Lines and all the Hover/Anti-Gravity Tech

Chibbity states that the Devs at one point did indeed say that the Rivals were Gnomes, that could be Possible, but Historically Dwarves and Gnomes have had Friendly, even Close Relations with each other- I'd think any Gnomes would just Join Up or Financially Back and Merge with the DRG Corporation- But now Possibly some Gnomes DID want to do that, but the Greedy and Insular Dwarves at DRG decided, "Nope, still No Gnomes even allowed in, just us Dwarves" and that Group of Gnomes got Offended and decided "F%#K You Dwarves, we'll make or own Robots to Mine Hoxxes" and are being Mysterious and Secretive so as to not Damage Overall Relations with the Dwarves- SO I'll Go and Say there's maybe up to a 10% Chance the Rival Tech was Created and is Operated by Gnomes- For all those same Reasons, maybe the Rivals are another Group of Dwarves that came across Hoxxes Late, and wanted in on the Action, or were Fired from DRG- They could also Build and Operate the Rival Minions, and want to be Secretive so Dwarven Society at Large isn't Angered at them or come after them as "Criminals" or "Traitors"- SO I'd Go 10% Chance Rival Dwarves

Another Outside, 5% Chance- The Rivals really ARE a Robotic Race unknown up until this point- The reason they are a Mystery isn't because some other Race is being Secretive, It Truly is a Newly Encountered Robotic Race at the Edge of the Galaxy that have come to Hoxxes as the Dwarves Encroach on their Territory- This is a Small Likelyhood to me though, as why would a Robotic Race be after JUST Minerals, Profit, and Ores? I'd think they would also Kidnap, Study, and Dissect the Dwarves and their Tech as well, and maybe they HAVE, But Management is Hiding that and Keeping it all Quiet

But Humans are still the Overall Logical Perpetrators behind the Rivals- They would be the more Numerous Race, especially in a Spacefaring Setting (Orcs and Goblins might be more Numerous, but not as Advanced for the Tech we see) - As I've Explored the Reasons Above, Humans wouldn't be able to Survive or at Least Last as Long or be as Successful on Hoxxes as Dwarves are, so they would Build and Operate a Robotic Fleet of Workers- They'd have Good Tech, On Par with, if maybe Slightly Below Our Dwarven Tech- And Humans would be after the Same Resources and Profits Dwarves would be in a Space/Sci-Fi Setting- Much More So than Elves, Orcs and Goblins would have Cruder Tech and More Likely just try to Raid or Steal from Dwarves, and even Gnomes wouldn't be as Ecologically Exploitative as Humans would be or as Profit Driven (Exluding South Park Lore and Underpants) - as to why all the Mystery and Secrecy, not sure, maybe the Humans are being Over-Cautious- Maybe in this part of the Galaxy the Assembled Dwarves could Crush Humans Militarily and Technologically- Or Maybe it's just Corporate Humans who Suck and are trying to be Sneaky and Greedy and Steal, be they Dwarves other Humans, or anyone else






So I'd Claim, with Logic, Reasoning, and my Educated Guesses,
that the Chances Are the Rivals Are Probably-

72% Humans
10% Gnomes
10% Other Dwarves, Possibly Disgruntled Former DRG Workers
5% New, Unknown Robotic Race
1% Elves- Doesn't Seem Likely to Me, but it's still a Possibility
1% Other, Unknown Race
1% (Probably Less Than That) an Orc, Goblin, or Kobold Race

I Believe I have Solid Arguments it's Most Likely a Human Rival Corporation,
But I'll Read and Hear what Others also Think

Even after your in depth explanation of why it would probably not be elves, I still believe Elves are one of the top possibilities because Elves tend to live a lavish life style in many fantasy settings and won't settle for anything less. So to maintain that lifestyle Elves must resort to enterprising a large amount of income. In other words Dwarves are greedy because they like to collect and make cool things while Elves like to live in high society, greedy but for a different reason. On-top of that since elves tend to avoid direct conflict (cowards) and don't like to get their hands dirty It is reasonable to assume they may use robots to provide the hard labor in the dangerous environment of Hoxxes.

The dwarves constantly exclaim how after they finish working for DRG, they'll start their own mining company to show them how it's done. Obvious explanation is that the rivals are the retired dwarves of old, which is why they changed to promotions instead.
