What would you think of "Mega" missions?
Ya know, sometimes normal missions just feel too short. Or not quite "epic" enough. It can also get a bit boring to do the same missions, with relatively the same length, over and over again. What if we could break up the monotony? Like... with a super-sized mission, for example?

For some missions, this would be pretty straight-forward (in fact, you can basically simulate these with certain mods). Mining Expedition would just be a way longer cave, with a larger Morkite requirement (anything from 600 to 1,400, to throw out numbers). Egg Hunt would just be a bigger room with... you guessed it, more eggs.

But for the missions that give you additional equipment to complete your job, I was thinking a "Mega mission" could do more than just making the main objective larger.

For example... take Point Extract. What if you got 2, or even 3 Mineheads, all in different parts of the cave, and had to extract 30+ Aquarqs? The extra Mineheads would make it so carrying such a large number of gems back wouldn't be nearly as tedious.

Or how about On-Site Refinery? We could get a massive refinery equipped with extra pipelines - up to 6 or 7, and a larger payload rocket.

For Escort Duty, we could get a more powerful dozer equipped for a longer haul. Or perhaps a more durable dozer with 5 health bars that can handle multiple Heartstones.

I'm not sure how something like Sabotage could be made larger without becoming significantly annoying to do, so maybe we can just leave some missions out. Not every mission would necessarily need a Mega version.

Also, these wouldn't be necessary to advance assignments or anything. No exclusive rewards either, aside from being more likely to spawn events due to increased length and complexity. They'd just be a fun challenge for anyone who wants to partake.

I for one would definitely love something like this. I don't think it would just be a novelty that would wear off. I think if the missions were significantly changed or built upon from their counterparts, they could be a fun experiment for GSG to toy with. ...Although with mods like Mission Content Randomizer already able to generate 1,000+ Morkite missions or 100+ Aquarq caves, the devs probably wouldn't try something like this...

But I dunno, I think it would be neat. Sort of like a mission the length of a Deep Dive, but you do it all in one sitting. I can definitely see how it would be boring to some. But me, I love "long haul"-type missions where you grab a seat, get comfortable, and prepare for an hour-long experience. I wish DRG had something like that outside of Deep Dives, that could also spawn minerals, events, and such. :mgsthumbsup:

I am not against it but if they arent 100% optional you can bet your mother people will complain them being too long.

the only problem with these missions may be the fact that you have limited revives when playing in solo. maybe make bosco reset revives on these kinds of missions after finishing secondary objective

Extraction with multiple mineheads sounds cool, but otherwise I think making individual missions take longer is a bad idea. You can get stuck in one of the existing caves for over an hour already, I'd rather see something like Deep Dives, where you have a sequence of missions with shared resources, or just more objectives - both primary and secondary.

Interesting concept, but I think such a mission type would need special rules to function.

For example, an intentionally long Point Extraction... would present some obvious problems. Missions would need to scale properly with things like time between waves, nitra, so on.

Longer missions are also more susceptible to potential disconnects. You spend 1+ hour in a mission, then get disconnected (Host/Client/Steam issue, Crash, whatever), lose it all. Kinda stings. The longer the mission the worse it is.

Longer missions may also run the risk of exhausting someone if it goes on for too long, and just want it to be done. Or maybe someone has to do something urgent shortly (bathroom, etc). Perhaps these long missions should have a 'partial complete' option of some kind, like being able to call the pod at any time. Voiding some of the full reward, but keeping what you do have.

Technical issues aside I think the concept of missions that are expected to take at least an hour to complete wouldn't fit the quick drop-in nature of the game.

I would love something like a 30 aquarq mission with a 4 man team, PE always felt like a short mission, so obviously the solution is to add more aquarqs to mine.

Rooms like this still exist.
Here's a seed from season 3 :

The fourth room (counting the starting room) is supposed to be a huge room.

Eeeeeehhhhh I dunno lol. Mining expeditions that require 300-400 are already a pain in the ass, can’t imagine going much higher than that lol…

I dunno but an expedition to find new mineral deposits would sound interesting, would be interesting if those caves had more difficult tarrain.

I'm using the the Mission Content Randomizer (now Massive Content Revise, I believe) mod for exactly this, and I loved it on first sight personally. It's still providing a lot of entertainment in solo when I'm getting bored of Vanilla. I'd love a group to play this with eventually though.
Missions can scale up to 10x the objective but you can filter out how extreme the scaling gets, of course. It can get super dicey late into the mission when you have to collect 100 aquarqs for example, but It's super satisfying when you pull things off.

Could be a mutator?

Then players could avoid it for the most part if they didn't like it.

Or seek them out if they did.

I was actually about to bring up MCR mod myself, I played it a lot back when it was way more simple and loved it, personally I'd love to see something like that in game but idk if it'd translate over to DRG well even if it was simplified but maybe theres a way

I kinda miss the old days of that mod
