For example, an intentionally long Point Extraction... would present some obvious problems. Missions would need to scale properly with things like time between waves, nitra, so on.
Longer missions are also more susceptible to potential disconnects. You spend 1+ hour in a mission, then get disconnected (Host/Client/Steam issue, Crash, whatever), lose it all. Kinda stings. The longer the mission the worse it is.
Longer missions may also run the risk of exhausting someone if it goes on for too long, and just want it to be done. Or maybe someone has to do something urgent shortly (bathroom, etc). Perhaps these long missions should have a 'partial complete' option of some kind, like being able to call the pod at any time. Voiding some of the full reward, but keeping what you do have.

The fourth room (counting the starting room) is supposed to be a huge room.
Deep Dives are already a boring chore that take way too long, we don't need more of these.
Missions can scale up to 10x the objective but you can filter out how extreme the scaling gets, of course. It can get super dicey late into the mission when you have to collect 100 aquarqs for example, but It's super satisfying when you pull things off.
Then players could avoid it for the most part if they didn't like it.
Or seek them out if they did.
I was actually about to bring up MCR mod myself, I played it a lot back when it was way more simple and loved it, personally I'd love to see something like that in game but idk if it'd translate over to DRG well even if it was simplified but maybe theres a way
I kinda miss the old days of that mod
