Weird hexagon shaped things in the mines

Hey fellow Miners, i've been coming across these weird hexagon shaped objects that kinda look like launch pads or something but i can't figure out what they do. I know there's those supply crate things you can find and get resources from, but i can't seem to interact with this one. If anyone knows what im talking about could you tell me what they are? Sorry. There should be a screenshot of it in my profile (I cant figure out how to get one on this post :p)

It's a machine event. Once you promote a dwarf you can activate it. Once activated, a challenging mini-game starts and once completed, you get to infuse blank matrix cores as a reward.
