What is the difference between rock and stone?
The question does not let me sleep.

You could pick up and throw a stone with one hand.

You would need two hands to pick up a rock, and would likely struggle to throw it very far.

Yes, I'm serious; I literally work with rocks and stones.

One is a material, one is where you get the material from. Its like the difference between Wood and Trees. You chop down the tree to get wood; you break apart rocks to get the stone.

This is also very correct.

Rocks are blasted loose from a rock face, and then sent through various crushers; to make all the different types of stone.

Such as, Peastone, # 1's, #1A's, #2's, Contractor #2's, #3's, Rip-rap, Crusher run, Fine crusher run; and Stone dust.

It also does not help that Rock is a name given to an object/surface, while Stone is given to a material/surface and object. Both get mixed up in our normal language already.

A stone structure is build upon a rocky surface. Big rock boulders are surrounded by smaller stones that litter the ground. The stone surface of this cliff is massive, the loose rocks look tiny in comparison.

... Ye totaly not confusing XD

Consider this:

Legally speaking, rocking is more legal than stoning. Eh?

I've always thought of stones as being very smooth, like a stony beach consists of many smooth stones perfect for throwing or, in my case and enjoyment, slinging. Rocks being jagged and sharp, like quartz so often is.

Of course, rock is also the fundamental building block that builds much of our earth. Stone simply being, as the legendary Dwarfurious said, what is taken from rock, either by us or by erosion. Cornerstones, stone bricks, stone terraces, stone patios, all have it in common that they are quarried from rock. The great pyramids were made of tremendous stone blocks, not rock.

I also thinked about stone as those smooth stuffs what rivers shaping over time and become smaller and have small air resistance too because of this.
Rocks are those bigger unshaped stuffs with rough surface.

Locking my thread about elves was so outta pocket
One is merely 4 letters long while the other lasts for whole 5 letters! Or, we could say one is 25 % longer than the other or that it is 20 % shorter...

In the business we call those "rounds," "decoratives;" or "cobbles."
