Yeah, the game scales to player count, including down to one player; plus you get Bosco.
You have bosco, send him out there. People solo haz4 and haz5 all the time, I found that playing Haz4 solo was easier than playing in some teams, as enemies scale to player count.
Does this happen to you on every single drop, or did you get unlucky once in a game that relies heavily on procedural generation? As I've dropped onto (or close enough to quickly wake up) a bet-c, nemesis and I think (though not 100% sure) also Harold, at the same time. Some drops just suck.
Good news is that you died quickly and didn't waste much time.
solo is very consistently beatable all the way up to haz 5 and even the elite dive
The game scales the amount of enemies down significantly when playing a solo mission. It also scales their health and damage down. If you find yourself overwhelmed by an entry wave on hazard 3 then you just aren't ready for hazard 3.
