The Autocannon thing...
...why does it seem so much weaker than the Minigun despite having almost double the base damage?

Because it's an AOE focused weapon, not direct damage?

It's just as powerful as the Minigun in its own way.

Aside from the big bertha OC, its best use is against large groups of enemies, since its specialty is splash damage, rather than direct damage.

Yeah, even when you build for it the autocanon is not the most accurate thing in the world.

I think it's the slower firerate, poor accuracy, and the fact that half of it's damage is explosion based which can't do critical hit damage :bsbullet: It is pretty handy against tightly packed bugs crawling on the wall or ceiling though because of this explosion damage however.

As already said above, it focuses more on AOE rather than direct damage. Carpet bomber turns this up a good bit I hear, neurotoxin payload is good, though personally I prefer plasma burster missiles on the hurricane.
There are definitely good ways to use the autocannon, or I wouldn't see it used so much in Haz4/5, but it's not a single target weapon like the minigun, best to use it on clusters of enemies.

Also, I'm not sure if it's been changed/fixed yet, though the minigun uses 2 ammo per bullet, which seems to be a limitation of unreal engine (bullets would vanish randomly if the fire rate was kept that high, same with the Zhukovs) which makes it seem like it has double the total effective damage if you run the numbers in loadout.

Also important to note that the minigun has a much higher fire rate than the autocannon.

It shines in Haz 4 & 5

like Chibbity said you have to focus on the AOE with that. It is literally the weapon where you cannot miss the broadside of the barn. Just point and shoot, forget aiming.

Yep... as enemy densities become higher, the better it gets. It's still home to the most busted OC in the game, NTP, which even after recent nerfs is still OP at higher difficulties.

Yeah, it can't handle rates of fire above 20. Plasma rifle also gets hit by this, since it has a base rof of 12 and two upgrades that give it +4 and up to +5 rof. If you stack them you should hit 21 rof, but you don't. Capped at 20.
Still somewhat baffling why the devs lie about minigun stats instead of giving the real numbers though. Or at least not lying more and claiming it does half its real damage so the dps and total damage would be accurate. GSG are mysterious.

This has been discussed to death already. It's a common video game design tactic used by far more developers than GSG to make guns feel more powerful than they are.

Those who are actually dedicated enough to care about such things will look up the true stats themselves or download one of the "real minigun stat" mods to do so.

For the vast majority of players, the Minigun and Zhuk stats being "false" doesn't affect them. It's still incredibly easy to mod the gun according to what you feel it needs.

I guess I don't play many shooters cause the ones I have played all either give you the stats straight or don't give any at all besides the ammo count. But here we have some weird thing where some stats are correct but others aren't.

The auto cannon imho is only good with NTP. Tried all of the OC. They are all bad. Carpet Bomber felt nice the first couple of seconds but it's incredibly ammo inefficient. NTP still is king and I'm not looking forward to more nerfs.

I expect to see the auto cannon getting effed entirely in the next season. Everything but NTP feels bad to use. Still the same issue as before the nerfs/buffs.
