please just delete the fandom wiki already

i'm not mad that the wiki is now actively maintained on gamepedia since it's a much better site anyways. fandom ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ sucks, it's loaded with ads and is basically unusable on mobile. no complaints there

however, there's no reason to keep both wikis running simultaneously. any information the first one had has been copied over to the new one. there's no reason to keep the old wiki up anymore, least of all when it's not being actively maintained and is, at this point, at least a year out of date.
you can't expect the average joe to know which one is the "right" wiki to visit, especially not when fandom is the more popular site anyways. search anything DRG related, and the fandom site is the one that pops up in search results because it's been around longer and people keep visiting it, which boosts its rankings in search engines

to make matters worse, someone is now adding their own weapon balance fanfiction to the fandom wiki which is completely fabricated. in what i found, the pages for the shard diffractor [deeprockgalactic.fandom.com]and the GK2[deeprockgalactic.fandom.com] have information about mods which aren't even in the game. this is absurd, and it looks badly on DRG as a game
just get rid of the fandom wiki. there's no reason to keep an outdated and un-moderated version of the game's wiki publicly available

Yoooo that gives me an idea: what if we start making new (fake) entries in the gamepedia wiki, like the Dreadnaught leech mother or something similar (and make it obvious it's fake as hell), or just change a lot of hyperlinks to lead to their respective wiki.gg pages.

IIRC when you try to migrate a wiki away from Fandom, Fandom will wrest control of it from you and delete any and all references to the migration. And, of course, since it's no longer moderated by anyone who cares, non-obvious vandalism gets by. The most you can really do at this point is try to fill it with enough misinformation that anyone who actually plays the game will immediately understand it's not a valid source.

The company might be able to make a reasonable case to insist it being taken down due to using thier assets..

But we'd need somebody from the legal department to make the case... and I think not even Dwarfurious is brave enough to walk into there.

Another good one is the new Poison Coating in T5 for the Bulldog[deeprockgalactic.fandom.com]. You guys seriously haven't been using that one? It's completely different from the neurotoxin mod because it applies... poison instead of neurotoxin, duh.

Everytime I need a game wiki and see it's fandom I instantly sigh and leave. I get it. Websites need ads to survive since nobody wants to pay for info.. but come on.. it's insanely meh to browse that site.

i don't consider it a coincidence that since bringing this up, the wiki has become even more vandalized. most likely tourists seeing this thread and realizing they have a free opportunity to ♥♥♥♥ it up even further for no consequence

i'm worried because it's only a matter of time before someone starts posting some hateful or bigoted garbage onto the fandom wiki and then this becomes a legitimate problem for GSG. i tried sending them a message via the contact form on their website but i believe they're still out of office atm so i doubt they'll see it
just have to hope for one of the wiki admins to see this i guess. or maybe dwarfurious, if you're reading this, could you let someone know about this problem who can deal with it?

I don't think there's much the devs can do. Fandom are a for profit organisation so there's no way anyone will convince them to take the wiki down. No business is going to give up profits just because they're asked to.
I guess maybe the devs could threaten legal action since it's their game? I don't know if they can do that or not. But I bet they don't want to do that even if it is possible.

FWIW, most vandalism has been done by a single user whose IP adress is easily visible to anyone going into the recent changes page.
