- NTP got nerfed. Still good.
- Carpet Bomber provides lots of AoE. Recently buffed back into place. Just don't expect any advantages of direct damage.
- Splintering Shells is just a minor AoE boost with no downsides.
- Composite Drums gives you a mag of ammo. No downsides.
- Combat Mobility makes you shoot faster and move faster while shooting. Just have to deal with a halved magazine.
- Big Bertha makes your direct damage hit much harder.

Personally I like to build non-NTP OCs with max ROF, as it feels really good once it gets going.
i see too many gunners trying to kill everything and end up being useless when things go really wrong. kill off the trash let your team help handle the rest, never fails. 4 leadbursters can one shot a det and most anything in a pinch. side arm is best to clean up the heavies. use your shield only when you reload or when you lose control of the situation. fear turns away most bugs and you can control which direction they run so the ntp will eat away at their health bar while they run back and forth.
ive played yoyo with praes, ntp fear them off, deal with other bugs, praes come back, ntp fear them off. when the trash is done i just fear them away and shoot them in the butt with my sidearm, super easy.
composite drums is my favorite
As much as I scream about terrible builds, you will find I often run a couple in-optimal ones. I know I am sorry the illusion is broken.
Splintering Shells is carpetbomber without downsides, so slightly more direct damage and easier to single targets while still having great AoE.
Composite Drums is your boring standard overclock with no big things to speak off. It adds some ammo but the reload speed is so low you wont even notice the buff.
Combat Mobility is your close ranged overclock of choice. If you dont like proactively shooting bugs and killing them before they reach you... Then this is your overclock, increasing your burst damage by a decent amount and allowing you to move at almost a normal pace while shooting. Great if you just want to kite targets up close.
Big Bertha is one of those overclocks many people say is great, yet i have never found a playstyle and build for it that worked over many years. A lot of people who say its great dont play hazard 5, so that might be one of the reasons. But even then there might be a hidden gem here that i have yet to find out.
Even with full accuracy, its in no way an accurate weapon, so hitting weakspots on any range thats not point blank is pretty much imposible. Add to that the reduction in magazine size and you have a weird weapon that wont allow you to shoot for very long, does not deal a lot of weakspot damage... and also does not have blowthrough rounds. This makes the weapon a bit weird since it still keeps its AoE, but focuses on single target damage. Yet it does not have the waveclear you might be used to from the minigun for example.
Probably the case most of the time...
Yes, must use subpar choices to show how good you are. Good call bud.
