AoE? run hellfire OC with something like 2,3,1,1,2
want single target? use Mole with 1,1,1,1,3 or 3,1,1,1,3 I prefer faster charge personally since overcharge with a faster charge can result in similar damage that extra coil gives but also lets you prepare a mole shot faster if you need quick damage
Collete? 23123 mega power or 22111 gama will do well
hi
Edit: actually, I’d use CMF for any build due to its usefulness. Only time I don’t run it is when using hellfire, in which I would use the faster reload speed.
Controlled flow on second row is very good for Trails. It quarters ammo cost and charge time to deploy.
At least try it if you are only using Hellfire to boost a bunch of small shots. Hellfire really shines when you use it with full-charge shots to make 3-second death beams, and punishes you for wanting to use it to spam smaller ones.
Colette is fun with temp shock builds for Cryo and Flamethrower, or Contagion Transmitter with the Goo gun. I've been trying 23213 with Diffusion Ray for temp shock, it's pretty good at destroying crowds. I'm not sure the slow effect is working though, it doesn't seem very powerful if it is. Mega Power Supply works too.
With the Goo gun, I've been using 22111 and Gamma Contamination recently, very DoT/DPS heavy. You can also take Mega Power Supply with 23111, and tap-fire to use the slow effect to lock enemies in AoE zones. It has a short duration, but it does last a little bit after firing which you can take advantage of to conserve ammo. Great at locking down Bulks or Dreads, and you can always hold the trigger down to do some nice bursts of damage against enemies that are hit by corrosion or neurotoxin.
Like I said, if all you're using is small shots, people should give UMC a try. Hellfire is bursty and great at big crowds, yes.
It's got less potential damage than I like. I can use as many small shots as I please. I also strongly dislike the lowered trail duration. UMC pairs beautifully with Born Ready, you can alternate between your two weapons. I definitely wouldn't say Hellfire is just "the best," since that's ignoring the many other potential variables.
Let people use whatever they want, as long as it works. The concept of "best" doesn't apply to everything. I definitely noticed the nerf, since it made the thing way weaker if all you want is to spam small shots.
I'm still trying to make Re-atomizer work too, but idk...it's just so situational.
IMO the coil gun as a whole should get a good face-lift. I also find that the charging feature of the coil gun to be very unnecessary because the gun already has a reload mechanic. I'd like it to be shortened significantly (and I mean, significantly) or just remove it entirely.
Also buffs to the base gun and a mod tree re-work would also be amazing.
Edit: also thanks for the steam points whoever gave it to me, I was running low!
Comfy build: 331x3 or 231x3 (Backfeeding Module.)
- This is just a comfy build. You sacrifice some damage but everything else feels good. Pick ammo mod in first tier if you feel like you don't have enough.
Generic Mole build: 231x3 (Mole.)
- Just click things with laser pointer and shoot them through walls 9head.
Fearspam/DOTspam build: 22223 (Triple Tech Chambers.)
- Charge up to 1 tick, then spam out all the shots. You'll fear bugs. Most of the damage will be coming from the electric trail DOTs. Ammo for more spamming, as you won't be charging this to max most of the time.
- This is really good for missions where you have to defend a static position, such as salvage or escort. Almost no pressure from grunts, praetorians and/or mactera.
- Stun is an option, but it's more for grouping up bugs (LazyMaybe video below demonstrates the gameplay).

Think 0.5 radius could be moved from Hellfire OC into base weapon. Ignition and leftover 0.5 would still be enough for Overclocks penalties.
23123 - Hellfire
Great on Industrial Sabotage / Rival Presence for killing bots. Massive horde-clear to supplement less flexible weapons such as Jet Fuel Hurricane or Lead Storm minigun. Great on Escort/Salvage as you can often get full value from it.
22(1/2)23 - Triple-Tech Chambers
Retains still fantastic crowd control and clear. You can pick between stun to increase overall damage or fear for extra utility. Awesome ammo efficiency and can snipe web shooters/acid spitters effectively allowing you to supplement poor accuracy weapons such as Thunderhead or Minelayer Hurricane.
I've toyed with other OCs but I couldn't quite find a good niche for them. Backfeeding Module isn't much more efficient that TTC. Mole is extremely difficult to setup. The other two aren't really worth mentioning.
CWC builds I like using:
12222 - Blistering Necrosis
Coupling this with Ice Storm makes a terrifying combo. Exothermic Reactor on Cryo Builds I feel gets outshined by EPC with Burning Nightmare; but Boiler Ray can offer fantastic AOE horde-clear by freezing a group -> bursting down a low HP bug and seeing everyone pop. Blistering Necrosis is great with Cryo + Impact Axe builds, as you can Blister a big bug, freeze it, and then impact axe the blister for massive burst DPS. On top of this; it is still perfectly capable of acid/web sniping.
13121 - Blistering Necrosis
Your usual Sludge Blast/VIM anti-dread build. You can inflict neurotoxin with contagion transmitter and generate blisters during dreads invincible phases to pop with your satchel the moment they're vulnerable.
13123 - Mega Power Supply
Perfect for Sticky Fuel. Has very decent DPS for special sniping. Great ammo efficiency and exothermic reactor does insane amounts of damage when you leave a puddle of flames beneath a tanky enemy.
its two best builds IMO are its unstables. gamma contamination is fantastic when paired with the sludge pump, as all the stacked DoT effects will just absolutely melt crowds and even do pretty substantial damage to HVTs. definitely combine it with T5A for even more DoT. in spite of the ammo penalty, it's a very efficient OC
blistering necrosis is an overall damage buff for the whole team, especially vs HVTs. if a shot does enough damage to break a blister, the damage will continue to pass through to the enemy even whilst the blister breaks. very good for weapons with high per-shot damage like the M1K or bulldog
it also has a few decent "comfort" builds; max ammo mega power supply makes it a good emergency sidearm to use if you have an inefficient primary like face melter CRSPR or sludge blast, just something to mindlessly spam at enemies with. super focus lens is also pretty good, the damage bonus is a surprisingly high %50 so it can do good work vs crowds and T1C. i dont think the CWC has any bad OCs (though some are definitely stronger than others)
coilgun is trash outside of hellfire, don't bother if you dont have that OC
there is nothing it does that isnt done better by the bulldog or burt several times over
For the Wave Cooker, it's best paired with the Cryo Cannon and equipped with Exothermic Reactor. It will flash-cook anything that's been frozen for big bursts of damage. It's good for clearing groups of grunts. Boiler Ray is good to pair with the flamethrower as it you can set everything on fire and just make things explode faster, thus killing larger groups quicker.
Personally, I use Blistering Necrosis for the OC since it can be used to soften enemies up for allies or burst down a big enemy with free weakspot hits.
My personal favorite coil gun build is with the Hellfire OC with an electric trail. With the Hellfire OC, it's hard to build the gun wrong, so feel free to experiment.
