I had a tritylite deposit spawn the barrels 40m below on the other side of a valley; RNG is RNG
Highly irritating, ngl
Imagine you start the event on a slanted cliff and you get infected macteras. These ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ are absolutely capable of lodging themselves under the cliff out of your view. Stay vigilant.
Use Terrain Scanner and ask Driller pretty please for some help.

Sphere? Last time I checked, kursite enemies spawned around the players, not around the event. Was this changed?
I just meant to suggest that the Terrain Scanner will help to see if there's any hidden areas above or below where they might be caught spawning.
If found, the Driller might be able to cut a hole directly to the area if it around a bend or through a wall, as has been my experience.
Even with skilled players I tend to always run down to the last 10~20 seconds of the timer every time. If anything, it's a huge pain to sit through. Very easy, but very long.
It should be more skill-focused. Have the Kursite chunks dissolve much faster, but make more Kursite bugs spawn at once.
Another Kursite spitter issue I've seen a while back was them just climbing up very high areas out of sight & spit range. Kursite mactera are usually the most reliable to find & kill.
Check for adjacent tunnels before staring, and if Driller, make a connecting tunnel for bugs or to check on spawns.
