I've never really had the need to leech ammunition unless the mission is going really badly as it is, in which case a Doom-like ability to gain ammo from kills is unlikely to save you anyway.
Well I guess since he asks for an ability to give extra Nitra, I'm guessing he is aware of the Ammo Drop. But as you said, there's always enough Nitra on the map. Sometimes there's alot and you can order like 5 drops, sometimes its barely enough for 2, but it's always there.
And if you have very little Nitra it's a sign to start speeding up anyway and to get out asap.
Some of the more Interesting Missions have been when I've been Low on Ammo though, 1/2 a clip on your primary, 5 shots Left on your Pistol- then you find that Nitra Chunk, call Molly and deposit as a Swarm comes - further dodging as you wait for the Supply Pod to drop, dodge again as you try to reload- then BAM- Eat It you Punk Bugs !!
Ammo only becomes an issue if you are doing bad, i.e. getting bogged down by enemies to the point where you are unable to explore the cave to get nitra you need for ammo. This means your team is ineffective and cannot withstand haz 4.
A lot of haz 4 games you have time to search the caved and gather all the resources you need but only if you are effective killing machines that can sniff out nitra as needed.
Tip: If you are worried about the amount of ammo, esp. prepping for spawns remember that environmental hazards are your friends. Use them. In fungus bogs or magma core with those exploding plants? Use them during swarms. gather your team into a tunnel where the plants are. Even though it is a tight space, you will save yourself ammo assuming you can time the explosions well and be aware of where your team stands.
Spatial awareness of your team can also help you conserve ammo. If driller is using their flamethrower and it has some range or they're right on the frontline, don't shoot. Wait and hear for how your team is doing on ammo until you may choose to use yours. Ask your gunner to throw up a zipline somewhere to help gain time to aim at glyphids better.
I also suppose equipping mods that increases your clip size could help you.
I like that it isn't 100% guaranteed that you will always have enough to complete the mission. The occasional stress of running low and then finally getting some ammo is awesome.
