My thoughts on the new grenades.
After using them all on haz 5 for a few hours I have a decent idea of what each is used for and how useful they are.

Most useful: Engineer's grenade. A very good alternative to the proxy grenades or the plasma grenades. The shredders last a good while and will kill quite a few grunts before they die. Can also take down big boys as well and are super easy to use. Probably engineer's best damage grenade overall. A plasma grenade can delete a big boi easier and proxy grenades can still do decent burst damage stacking a bunch on them, but overall the shredder grenade is a good grenade.

Second is the Scout's boomerang. A long, long stun that lets you use the magnetic heads of your crossbow/bullets of mercy for bonus damage lets scout delete giants and have a good escape vs smaller glyphids. I'd say cryo is a bit better, but not by much with how this boomerang is so easy to use and its nearly impossible to miss with it unlike cryo, and you get more of them! Best used if your secondary is the crossbow since you can do extra damage with the crossbow vs these stunned targets.

Third is the gunner's grenade. It does more damage than the MIRV and flame wall, but these take the most thought to use as you gotta attach them to walls or cielings and they do a fair amount of friendly fire damage on top of that. Not as bad as....

Driller's grenades are team shredding monsters. Its even worse because these things don't do all that much damage to glyphics on their own, but do insane teamfire/self damage instead. It feels like the damage values between how much team damage and how much they do to enemies was swapped or something.


Overall 3 out of 4 of the grenades are good, with the driller's grenade needing to be rebalanced/reworked a bit.

boomerang seems finicky. Sometimes it attacks and sometimes it comes right back even though there is a swarm right in front of you.

The gunners leadburster has crazy range. I think it needs to be reduced or there needs to be a sharp reduction in FF starting from 10m out from the grenade. Also, it feels awkward to throw. Like the weight and acceleration are off.

Ripper just seems like a joke. I didn't even bother buying it after testing it out in experimental.

Killing teammates with thrown weapons is part of the Driller identity.

Ripper does almost as much damage as axe, but to enemies in a line. And if you put it in a corridor to loop around and your team doesn't think it's a powerup, it can score multiple hits on targets bulky enough to survive the first hit.

It suffers in wide open areas and has high team killing potential, but then, so does the Plasma Burster, and last I checked people love that thing.

Gunner's grenade is hit or miss. Sometimes swarmers get through it. Deals a bunch of FF. Slightly more dangerous Cluster, IMO.
Engie's grenade sucks for immediate killing. I need more time with it.
Boomerang is fine if you aren't playing on Elimination.

No opinion on Driller's grenades (HE got a change) yet. All I know is that it slapped 60% of my HP through full shields.

Engie main here, not super impressed with the drone swarm grenade in terms of it's damage potential compared to prox mines. Good in concept but the actual grenade doesn't have any boom boom or KERPOW factor.

yeah, the shredder grenade is more of a "I'm securing the area" grenade. Its burst is almost non existant but it lasts a long time and holds an area very well.

I hope they never change Driller's grenade FF rate. The more options for downing Scouts the better.

Mostly agree, though I think Engie's is a bit lower. They're all fun, unique and strong with the exception of Driller's which I find to be a detriment more often than not. It's at its strongest in close quarters but requires too much setup, meanwhile in the open it's usually too weak to be worth using while also being extremely dangerous.

I love the rest though. Engie's isn't as strong as his alternatives imo, but it's fun, boosts his single target and protects him while setting up sentry guns. Scout's has great synergy with a ton of his kit and feels fun, and Gunner's feels a bit too similar to the cluster grenade with identical function and use cases, but being identical to a fan favorite isn't exactly a bad thing.

I just used the beyblade. I absolutely despise this grenade.

Good new though, T1 width on Colette doesn't suck.

shredder grenades further cement engineer as the best solo class. these are a great help when you are trying to do mission objectives and need to multitask. if you have good area damage on your secondary (inferno, in this case), you dont really miss proximity grenades. safe to use, no FF or self damage.

scout boomerang is fine, you get 8 of them, so you dont have to be that selective in how you use them. like engineer shredders, this one kind of works in the background for you when you might be doing something else, like picking up a teammate, or resupplying. doesnt require enemies to be bundled like cryo. decently effective, flexible. i used it with AI stability and gas recycling.

only ones ive used so far. taken plenty of FF from the gunner spam grenade.
