It's a recently-introduced mineral ( which appears in a thin and long shape, much like Umanite, but of a bright violet color and covered in lots of tiny spikes ) intended to help newer miners in buying cosmetics without having to sacrifice resources for equipment upgrades.
Also, keep an eye out for Compressed Gold, which is a big Chunk of Gold buried in the Ground, much like Enor Pearls or Jadiz.
This is how the walls/ground looks like if you encounter Compressed Gold:

The same goes for Bittergems, which are also worth alot of money, and look like this:

If you happen to come across a Korlok Tyrant-Weed and manage to kill it you get 3 Tyrant Shards, which are also worth 350 Credits per piece.
Also, check the Mineral Trader every day to see if there is a good deal. You can sell some of your minerals for quite a bit of money.
I mean you can still do that and get the Gold. Yes, in Haz 5 Gold is ignored completely as it wastes time, but if you are around 3 or 4 you can comfortably get it when it's along your path anyway.
Seems there isn't a secret trick and i'll just keep playing and spend the money i get wisely.
Those difficulties are easiest while still giving you a lot of hazard bonus, mineral mania will give you more minerals which are worth 2500%+ more than gold.
Probably the no-cheese way to earn credits and gather materials fastest is doing 4-6 Egg Hunts solo or hosting at Haz 2 or 3 if you can handle that with no issues. H2 Eliminations can generally be done faster, but I prefer Egg Hunts since there is generally less running around (more compact) so it's faster for ensuring you have access to the crafting materials and secondaries which you might have to run through all of the tunnels on Elimination for. Crafting materials should not be ignored. You're going to need a lot of them for upgrades, promotions, and cosmetics, plus they are worth far more during a mission than gold once you have enough extra to warrant selling some. You don't want to be buying minerals from the trader.
I definitely *don't* recommend late-joining. While it is good for earning credits/minerals for little effort, you will miss out on valuable machine events, cosmetic unlocks, and could find yourself developing a bad reputation around hosts in your area, earning yourself a kick for being a freeloader. You should be playing DRG for the experience/fun of playing the game, not to collect credits/cosmetics. Unlocking upgrades faster won't magically make you a better player as much as the actual experience of *playing* the missions regardless of the state of your equipment.
