Best primary to go along with epc mining?

So long story short, whats your prefered primary weapon that you use together with epc mining.

I usually run temp shock builds with either sticky flames and microwave or cryocannon and epc with the Heat mod.
I really want to get into epc mining but have no idea in what to use for primary.

Yeah there is no primary which won't do just fine with EPC mining, at one point 3 of my 5 loadouts had Magnetic Cooling Unit (MCU) EPC with Thin Containment Field (TCF) on them. One had Cryo with Flow Rate Expansion, one had CRSPR with Fuel Stream Diffuser, and one had Corrosive Sludge Pump (CSP) with Hydrogen Ion Additive. They were all perfectly fine builds I enjoyed using. Not optimal perhaps but you use the overclocks you have. The point is that TCF is powerful enough, not just in utility but in combat, that it could be an effective solo weapon. Having a primary which can also serve as an "all rounder" on targets large or small to alleviate some of the pressure off the EPC so you can spend more ammo on mining is really all you need, and any of the Driller primaries can do that.

My personal favorite was probably the Cryo though, something about freezing a field of enemies and then popping a TCF blast over their heads to annihilate them was just So satisfying. The dream for me though is to have Persistent Plasma, and use it with TCF in conjunction with Disperser Compound CSP. Being able to TCF mine while Also setting puddles of goo on fire, and stacking 4 different DOTs on top of each other for a total of over 100 passive DPS? Yes Please! Just another 3 months max to go for that dream though.

Something with plenty of ammo, since you'll be wasting most of your Secondary ammo doing something Scout does for free.

Yeah but the Scout risks falling to death without Engi Support, while the Driller just risks blowing themselves up XD

Plus, the Scout spends 10-15 seconds mining it, while with TCF the Driller mines it in 2 ... and then spends 10 seconds picking it all up XD

That being said, while you Absolutely can blow through a lot of ammo, trading ammo for convenience effectively, the TCF is arguably More useful and powerful in combat than it is as a utility tool, and that says something since it's a very nice utility tool to have around.

TCF is OP plain and simple. I'm not sure what you couldn't run with it. Sure you can mine, but TCF deals so much damage that instead of wasting it on mining shoot the bugs with it. Though EPC mining can be useful for getting hard-to-reach or awkwardly placed minerals.

A table leg. Not to club bugs to death, but to stub your toe on in the dark. Which is what you deserve for TCF mining.

It can go fine with any primary. I run it with a max puddle Sludge Pump strictly because I like to use that build for Escort runs where I rely on Sludge for defensive area denial and TCF EPC for beamers & rocks. Otherwise I also run it with Stick Flames flamer. For Cryo I tend to focus on Heavy Hitter /w Plasma Burn.

That said, EPC mining for me is more of an "if necessary" such as very out of the way deposits like on Stalactites. I'll drill up walls to reach most elevated veins. I get a far greater sense of "Driller #1" satisfaction from using Axes on Ebonuts and insta-dropping a roof full of Gunk Seeds with a sweep of the WaveCooker. :)

As Chibbity said, you need lots of ammo. CSP Disperser compound with max ammo + max mag capacity or ITE, ice spear, or tuned cooler Cryo cannon with both ammo upgrades.

not sure where this mentality of TCF being ammo hungry came from when it's one of the most efficient means of AoE damage in the game
even if you use it for both combat and mining it's hard to run out of ammo with unless you're zapping literally every single vein

anyway, build with TCF doesn't really matter imo, most of driller's arsenal pairs well with it
i guess maybe the cryo cannon since immobilizing enemies will make them easier to kill with tcf, or maybe just use the CRSPR to hose down trash mobs whilst you save TCF for mineral veins

Sticky flames that slow them down and once you have all the bugs piled up in a pit of fire, an EPC blast eradicates them fastly. Would also go with a Cryo that freezes bugs fast or a sludge pump that slows them. Pretty neat combo for any primary as you can see.
