You keep your stars and just have your class level back down to 1, as with regular promotions.
Beyond the benefit Cress pointed out there's the mental aspect of "I'm max level and not getting any XP". For me it just feels awkward playing a max level character and not getting XP, when the possibility to gain XP is there.
With that said, OP, Most likely you don't mean 'Red' stars, but rather 'Bronze' stars- You just don't have near enough hours to have achieved Legendary promotion on even a single class, let alone all 4.
Promotions go as follows:
Bronze 1-3 star -> Silver 1-3 star -> Gold 1-3 star -> Platinum 1-3 star-> Diamond 1-3 star-> Legendary 1-3 star
After you've reached 3 star Legendary, there's no real point in promoting beyond the above discussed reasons. But by the time you reach Legendary 3 on even one dwarf, There's pretty much nothing else TO spend your money and minerals on anyway. By that point you will have bought every weapon, every upgrade to every weapon, every overclock for every weapon, and pretty much every single cosmetic you actually care about.
As a point of comparison, I have 3 classes at Bronze 1, And one class at Silver 3.. And I have already bought nearly every upgrade for every weapon, every overclock I have received to date (still a fair amount to go, but can only get so many a week), and every cosmetic I personally care about- Still collecting more for completions sake though. So resources for me have nowhere to go except to more promotions anyway.
Of note, There's an achievement for promoting all 4 dwarves to Silver promotion, and an achievement for getting all 4 dwarves to Gold promotion as well.
All in all, Yes, Keep promoting.
same here, I like having that extra bit of leveling going on in the background, so my time invested into my class of choice still shows in some way
even moreso now that theres a mod that shows how many times past max promotion you've went
I'm slowly working my way up to 100 engineer promotions
You unlock cosmetics until blue level 100.
There's also something to be said about a person that stops at 3* legendary and sits at the perfect account level. But if you get a dopamine rush from seeing number go big then have at 'er ;)
Important to note that only ppl with the mod can see it, but yeah that's a neat one.
