Class combinations for two players...
Okay here's the deal :
I've been playing DRG mostly with friends and with my wife. That usually means that we're two players in most missions, simply because reasons.
Now how to determine which class combo works best in certail missions (we're talking Haz 3-4 here). So far I figured out the following combos (and yeah I'm very well aware that others have found out similar things....just trying to contribute something usefull once in a while) :

Morkite Mining : Driller + Gunner/Engineer : The Driller has the crowd control while the Gunner/Engineer provides the raw firepower to get swarms down quickly. Also the Driller can nearly always get the two of us back to the droppod without ever having to worry about...well anything at all. EZ mode.

Point Extraction : Gunner + Scout : Just works out fine. Both can get stuff that is somewhere around the cave rather quickly and this is where a scout can truly shine.

Salvage Missions : Engineer + Gunner : I miss the Scouts lights with this combination but it's pretty simple with the Engineers turrets and the Gunners shield. Basicly a no-brainer.

Dreadnought killing missions : Engineer/Scout + Gunner : Similar to the salvage missions but here the Scout can pull aggro and use his grappling hook to get away, giving the gunner a lot of time to shoot the dread to pieces. The Engineer is helpfull with his turrets, so both combinations work out. Only issue is, that the Scout can get to a downed Gunner faster while the Engineer provides more firepower.

Egg Collection : Scout + Driller/Gunner : This one is kinda difficult. I like the Driller here since he can provide quick escape and get to the eggs fast but he lacks firepower. The Gunner is helpfull but not "fast" enough, while the Scout seems to be essential for this mission.

What do you guys think? Any improvements on the combos? Any better ideas that would make teams of two easier?

Uh, Gunner + Driller is the only real 2 man combo you need for practically anything. The end.

In my opinion Driller is almost always better than Scout in duos (the one exception would be Elimination missions, where Scout's on-demand mobility and IFGs are irreplaceable).

I would pick Gunner/Driller for every mission type except Elimination where it would be Gunner/Scout. Scout is not really the optimal choice unless you've also got an Engineer to pair with him.

Not to mention that the not-Mosin Nagant/M1 is probably the best weapon for the job, and driller is still absolute trash at elims. The plasma charger has changed that a little, he can do alright damage now, but his flames and ice are still practically useless (you CAN freeze a dread in phase 1, but not worth taking a digger if you know you're going elim).

Doesn't change my point though, for any given mission, Gunner + Driller. Scout's a better option if you know you're going elim, but if you're heading into something blind, nothing beats the ol' Kill & Drill.

Pretty Good Logic on all Missions especially Point Extraction-- although the classic Scout/Engineer for Mining also can clear thoroughly and Fast

Gunner + Engie and Gunner + Scout are good for most missions

Engineer turrets for dreadnoughts are not really much of a benefit, they don't target the weakpoint so they do very low chip damage. A gunner on a zipline can solo a dreadnought with nearly zero risk by causing it to constantly reverse direction and expose its butt from below/above; the scout would actually be better here because the IFG slows the dreadnought and maximizes the windows you have to do damage.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not "bashing" on the driller, since it's actually my main class played! It's just that after a couple of hours it "seems" like in many cases the scout makes things easier on some missions, especialy when you only bring two dwarves into the mission. I have to agree on the engineer vs. Dread. However he's more viable in that mission type than the driller would be...although the scout pretty much nails it here.

Yes you CAN do all missions except the elim with a gunner/driller combo. It's just not efficient in all missions. Point extraction for example makes the scout superior in every situation. The Driller can hold his ground and get to the lower ressources fast, but as soon as stuff spawns upwards, you'll end up with exploders in your tunnels with no chance of jumping off and grabbing into safety in most cases.

During salvage missions it's a little more complicated since the flamthrower or cryo help actually A LOT but the enigineer packs a little more utility with his platforms and turrets. As already mentioned it's a small difference and I used both classes with good results here but from MY point of view the driller is a tad weaker here than the engi (in a 2 person team).

Yep. But the Driller + Gunner makes everything where you have to run back to the pod a cake walk. Well maybe my teammates and I are just not good enough but we failed more than one Morkite mining mission without one of us being a driller. While I can't remember failing one with a Driller.

Honestly, the best combination for any mission or hazard level is Driller + Scout. The driller has CRAZY amount of Utility, and a good amount of stopping power, and the ability of the scout, to be anywhere, anytime, is awesome. Also, being able to see things is not a small benefit either.

I think I might bring the Driller to more missions tho and leave the Scout at the spacerig more often. Seems like maybe I'm a little off about the Drillers firepower.
Yeah definetly use the driller more often. He became a beast and killing mashine since update19. Equip the cryogun and plasma charger with the right mods. The health on melee kill perk to shatter random enemys for health. And you end up with the most fun and independant killing mashine there is in the game atm.
You can go almost anywhere you want thanks to low fuel consuming drills. Have insane CC but still the firepower to wipe out entire waves with one good aimed charged plasma shot. And all that while being ammo conservative as ♥♥♥♥. Again if modded and played right.
Jesus iam 250h in and i could write so many lines of why i love the driller.

And i do appreciate the other classes well. Have them all on bronze3 promotion. But my driller is silver 2 allready and my bae. All other classes just dont give me the freedom to do whatever i want and deal with everything with ease.

I guess what iam trying to say is:
"I eat rock for breakfast!"
