Opinions on Crossbow?
So far I've found:

T1: Pheromone bolts are best all around, Explosive Chemical bolts are only really justified when you're playing Haz 5 with a team with subpar crowd control or solo, that would be different if the affected targets exploded as soon as they died, but the delay is usually just long enough for the other bugs to get away from it outside of a massive swarm, and Taser Bolts are just... underwhelming.

T2:All are good, depending on what you want to focus on.

T3: Projectile Speed is nice but the reload speed is invaluable.

T4: So many overclocks make bolts irretrievable that Radio Trasnmitter Module is usually wasted, even as a training wheel so you dont miss shots, Battle Frenzy is nice I guess.

T5: Magnetic Shafts for whe you're runnin Drak with Electro (or GK2 with the reload Overclock, if you're that kind of guy), Potent Specials for everything else, Fear bolts is a fun meme.

Overclocks

Trifork Volley: A nice alternative to Jumbo Shells, less ammo but more punch.

Bodkin Points: Very fun, and quite effective Overclock, turns the crossbow from a good single target to a good crowd weapon, which scouts needs in his secondaries.

Fire/Cryo Bolts: Both are quite underwhelming, like the Taser Bolts atm. I wouldn't mind them being much stronger for less ammo.

Quick Fire: If you like Base Crossbow this just makes it waay bettter, its everything the weapon needs.

Specialist: Really strong for controlling hordes with pheromone bolts (Still dont know why the hell Pheromone has the highest total ammo for special bolts, its clearly the strongest), or memeing a Turret Arc-lite with Taser bolts, (but its usually too much work for little payoff).

I'm not a fan so far. It feels like a weapon that should specialize in shredding bigger bugs, but it really doesn't. I haven't tried any overclocks yet.
Tribolt my dude
crossbows are dumb
using a crossbow when you could be using a gun is dumb
i'm not using some dumb crossbow

it's dumb

Fun util thing
Having pheromone bolts and cryo grenades together? I'm all in.
Great tool and hunting device for special enemies.

Have a nice day.
I've gotten used to it but swapping between bolts is cumbersome and it needs more ammo.

I'm using trifork with magnetic shafts which is good for single target dmg while Pheromone bolts are good for hordes especially when combined with a cryo grenade and drak with aggressive venting.
Crossbow is interesting, I feel that the Elemental bolts are the strongest options; Cryo is great for hunting high value targets like spitballers, praetorian, and breeders. The fire bolts allow the scout to actually deal with massive hordes effectively; a pheromone dart or two followed by 2 fire bolts. Both elemental bolts are great for swarmmers for those M1000 users that have issues with them. Regular bolts are good if you have a low accuracy primary and need something to kill bugs a far way away. The unstable bolts are a waste of time In my opinion, you have better damaging secondaries (detonators, jumbo) As for the specials, Pheromone is the easiest to use and one of the strongest with the highest ammo count (for some reason, they should all just have the same ammo count IMO)
My combo is usually Icebolts for team games when I am in a support role, and Fire on solo when I need stopping power for those large waves.
personally i think its little weak compared the number of regular shots. i think that the special shots could use some fine tuning. for instance the i am not a fan of trading ammo for damage. for example it takes 2 ammo to do damage with the electro arrows. i don't like the function of the explosive arrows. i would be alright with a long dot that ends with explosion but using 2 ammo to get one effect is not my cup of tea. the effect of the pheromone arrow ends far to soon and does far to much damage to small targets to be of great effect.

as for some of the over clocks the fire and frost take far to long to freeze of burn a target. even with multiple arrows in the target. the tri fork takes far to much ammo. the ability to pick up arrows was nerfed before hand. so you can't pick them up from any corpse but if you add any of these over clocks you lose the ability to pick up missed shots.

in my humble opinion it needs work. i thought the whole point of cross bow was either to give a heavy handed secondary weapon to the scout or to expand his ammo stores considering the new primary eats ammo.
I mainly play solo and find the pheromone bolts great when you're about to get overrun. I also like that you can one shot tougher enemies with the regular bolt
the crossbow ultimately needs too much micro to be good. other scout secondaries are reflex weapons that can burst much more carelessly.

the pheromone arrows can create a lot of efficiency against density when soloing if you micro. shoot praetorian, grunts aggro praetorian, bosco cryo rocket. and/or 2 ice bolts, and/or cryo grenade.

you can also do the same with a single fire bolt after pheromone. one fire bolt in a praetorian will set grunts on fire over time as they aggro it. its very efficient. but you have to micro it.

Will give it a go.
I unlocked all OC's before using the crossbow for the first time. I selected everything that sounded like it fits my playstyle best and honestly -- it sucks so bad, it's not even funny. I played two missions and switched back to the shotgun, I'm just so used to special powder at this point. Glad to hear other players are much happier with it.

I've got all the OC's now and I've spent some hours with them.

My only critique would probably be the fire bolt and cryo bolt OC's. They're basically useless. Single shot, slow reload, low damage, and they don't even ignite or freeze most of the time. It's a slow build up. Even when you stack them, they are unreliable. Works great on grunts and the like, but against anything you'd REALLY want those status effects for? Ineffective.

You can't overheat robots with fire bolts.

You can't freeze Dreadnaughts with cryo bolts.

Conclusion: Garbage. Into the trashcan they go. Forever. I banish thee, worthless OC's. To the abyss. May you never darken my door again.

I mean one Cryobolt infront of a crowd freezes a bunch of them which is like a cheap cryogrenade. 1 bolt is a frozen Brood nexus/Spitballer, 2 is a frozen Praetorian. It sucks against Oppressors but even Cryocannon struggles at that, meh.
Remember that you still have your special shot, so Cryobolts are like a Cryomine Zhukov jr except you got your special shot of choice too.
