Opinions on Crossbow?

So far I've found:

T1: Pheromone bolts are best all around, Explosive Chemical bolts are only really justified when you're playing Haz 5 with a team with subpar crowd control or solo, that would be different if the affected targets exploded as soon as they died, but the delay is usually just long enough for the other bugs to get away from it outside of a massive swarm, and Taser Bolts are just... underwhelming.

T2:All are good, depending on what you want to focus on.

T3: Projectile Speed is nice but the reload speed is invaluable.

T4: So many overclocks make bolts irretrievable that Radio Trasnmitter Module is usually wasted, even as a training wheel so you dont miss shots, Battle Frenzy is nice I guess.

T5: Magnetic Shafts for whe you're runnin Drak with Electro (or GK2 with the reload Overclock, if you're that kind of guy), Potent Specials for everything else, Fear bolts is a fun meme.

Overclocks

Trifork Volley: A nice alternative to Jumbo Shells, less ammo but more punch.

Bodkin Points: Very fun, and quite effective Overclock, turns the crossbow from a good single target to a good crowd weapon, which scouts needs in his secondaries.

Fire/Cryo Bolts: Both are quite underwhelming, like the Taser Bolts atm. I wouldn't mind them being much stronger for less ammo.

Quick Fire: If you like Base Crossbow this just makes it waay bettter, its everything the weapon needs.

Specialist: Really strong for controlling hordes with pheromone bolts (Still dont know why the hell Pheromone has the highest total ammo for special bolts, its clearly the strongest), or memeing a Turret Arc-lite with Taser bolts, (but its usually too much work for little payoff).

Don't like it, it's kinda overshadowed by the Zhukovs in every way IMO. Embedded Detonators pump out way more single target damage than any of the crossbow OCs, Cryo Minelet Zhukovs do Freeze Bolts job more flexibly, and with more ammo efficiency*. Additionally while Pheromone bolts are good, it usually requires something big with a lot of health to create space for yourself, while CM Zhukovs can create space and safety by just shooting them at your feet or in a line. Hard to like it when the Zhukovs just feel better (IMO) all around.

*(2 bolts to freeze 1 Praetorian = 10% or 7% ammo used per Praetor (depending on if you've taken T2 ammo upgrade) vs. 40/750 for 12212 Cryo Minelet Zhukovs = 5% per Praetor.)

I only tried Pheromone and fire + explosive bolts so I can't speak for the frozen, triple or bodkin bolts yet

But Pheromone seems quite strong with the specialist overclock, close to 20 seconds per bolt with upgraded the special bolt upgrade perk, and you can get 15 total if you take the increased amount of special bolts perk lmao, basically nullifies the hoard forever in a pinch

The fire ones work best on hoards in tandem with explosive bolts i find, Use fire first and let it spread, then apply chemical explosive bolt to the first or 2nd bug in the pack, pretty easy swarm clearing in my experience so far

I've heard the tribolts and fire bolts suck. Dunno how true that is, but a friend of mine was using the fire bolts and I was just watching in sadness as he could barely ignite a Praetorian with 3+ bolts.

honestly I'm glad I finally can have fun playing scout bodkin bolts are really funny and I love them
trifork volley with ifgs is great for murdering bet-c which I'm all for

fire bolts are nice for swarmers but kinda disappointing for everything else

haven't tried cryo bolts but I assume they're like fire bolts and haven't touched either clean OC but y'know they're clean OCs so they can't be hurtful

I'm not a fan so far. It feels like a weapon that should specialize in shredding bigger bugs, but it really doesn't. I haven't tried any overclocks yet.

Oh, it gets worse. 1 fire bolt can just BARELY ignite a grunt.

I heard someone say the heat on the fire bolts was bugged, not sure if true but if it is and it gets fixed it should be a lot better, but its great for swarmers and if you take the damage mod in t2 the downside is mostly negligible.

Trifork is alright, comparable to Jumbo Shells on shotty (taking the ROF mod) but with more emphasis on single-target nuking with its damage multiplier on tier 5. Pierce damage type making it less good against praetorians/oppressors is a downside that reduces ammo efficiency if not exploiting that damage modifier. (However the ammo assessment is also ignoring the fact that special bolts exist.)

It's a bit weird that Praetorians and Oppressors are so damn resistant to it but aside from that it got a lot of utility on enemies like goo bombers, ROBOTS, spitballers. Speaking of utility, it is like a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ swiss army knife. Cryobolts might be inferior to Zhukov cryomines but you dont trade your entire secondary since you still have the special shot of your choice.
I'm probably alone on this but I found Firebolts to be ok. Shoot 2 on the floor in front of a big group of enemies and light them all on fire.

The first impression of this weapon makes it seem like it sucks but it has so much utility and customization once you get OCs
