Honestly, while this is probably unintended, I must say that I like these new sights, even if they can make things a tad complicated when it comes to moving around the cave.
This reminds me of that time when earth fissures in Magma Core were bugged for a short time, and turned into walls of rock protruding from the ground instead (sadly didn't experience it in person, but it looked pretty cool).
Anyways, even if this specific new crystal generation is unintended, I do hope that the devs will consider to keep it in the game, with a low chance of it occurring, perhaps.

Most likely intentional, and I like it. Really is Crystalline Caverns now, beforehand it was more like Cavernous Crystals. I used to think of it like the "beginner" biome since it was typically hazard free, but the changes make it more dangerous despite not having any active hazards like poisonous gas, magma geysers, etc. etc.
