Don't have any OCs yet but this thing seems really bad, lol

The coilgun is slow. It needs to be reloaded every time you shoot. It doesn't do much damage, and when set to full AOE : it *will* hurt your team-mates. It may have its uses in solo play, but that's it.

This is by far the worst weapon created by DRG corp'.

The three other new weapons are pretty cool tho.

It is terrible. Works well on Hazard 3, though. Probably why people are advocating for it
Like all aoe weapons, it massively profits from high haz.
i just want to make it clear that i don't play haz 3 lol, it's just the common trend I'm seeing with almost every single person praising this update and its weapons. "These weapons are amazing i don't know what people are complaining about! I play haz 2 when i'm solo and haz 3 with friends and they're all great!!"

Weapons should be balanced for all haz levels. What’s your point?

and they suck hog on hazard 5? they're objectively bad and half the OCs should be baked into the actual weapons

If something works on haz 5 it works on haz 2. If something works on haz 2 it doesn't necessarily work on haz 5, and there you find the crux of the problem with hazard 3 players trying to disparage or otherwise attempt to tell hazard 5 players that they are wrong, when the hazard 3 players aren't even close to playing the same game as those that play haz 5.

Its fairly decent on h5, if you got flat terrain. Point, shoot, do a couple 100 dmg, slow and set aflame as many enemies as you could stack.
Its not really great at aoe, but neither is the bulldog.

I play haz4. Haz5 with randoms seems like it would be not fun.

Anyone found a use for the terrain penetration OC and the one that passes on debuffs? Feels like they only exist for meme builds.

No, no and yes, memes.

This is hilarious when you consider that, while a haz3 player might not know whether or not a weapon works in haz5, someone who actually knows how to play the game will get through missions at the highest difficulty level with absolutely any weapon in the game, no matter how well it "works".

In this game viability has no meaning since the game at its highest difficulty level isn't hard enough to invalidate weapons or builds. If you're talking efficiency, that is a whole other thing.
Hazard 5 is easy enough that you can complete it with literally no upgrades or OCs on any equipment or guns if you actually know what you are doing so the idea that the coil gun does not "work" with upgrades and OCs at haz 5 is absolutely retarded.

And yes the gun actually does "work" at hazard 5, it can serve as good AOE and can allow you to save a ton of primary ammo compared to the other secondaries. Make proper use of it and you can easily get through a haz5 ommoran without resupplying once and without letting bugs get through any health bar.

For a community that supposedly encourages different builds and play styles, it sure sounds like most of the people in this thread just want every weapon to cater to their preferred play style.

There are already 2 single-target burst-damage secondaries for the Gunner, so I don't see why we need a third one. The main arguments in this thread are either "it's a coilgun, so it should match my expectations for it" or "all other Gunner secondaries are that way, so this one should be too." Talk about boring.

Meanwhile, I'm going to enjoy exploding entire clouds of naedocytes/shredders/swarmers with one shot while simultaneously receiving 5 seconds of sustained protection against them letting me focus my leadstorm on heavier targets. (Successfully at H5 btw, before anyone suggests otherwise)

And that doesn't even go into how hellfire turns it into a skyburst incendiary grenade gun.
Being good at killing a couple of swarmers isn't exactly a strong reason to pick a gun. Even more so as they need to be lined up.

You missed the part about it being a 5 second shield. No need to line them up. Just stand in the trail cloud and all swarmer-type bugs die around you. (And if you're suggesting swarmer-type bugs won't F your ♥♥♥♥ up, you need to play more haz 5)

Again, it's a gun that caters to a different play style. Instead of frantically focusing your minigun on a ton of small swarmers or using up a grenade, you can just fire off a single coil shot near the ground and forget about them which frees you up to focus on better targets. It works at range too, so you can instantly vaporize a swarm before they even get close to you, or clear the swarm around another dwarf to free them up.

The way I see it is that Gunner secondaries are specialist weapons. You can build it to shutdown mactera type enemies (mactera toxin), or you can build it to shutdown praetorian enemies (elephant rounds). You can even build them for splash damage (exploding magic bullets)

This new gun can be specialized into swarm-type enemies (radius mods) and/or machine type enemies (hellfire). The range focus option is the mole mod which gets you the unique benefit of working without clear sightlines.

"dis gun requires thinking. dis gun bad!"
Fr, everyone who is saying the lok-1 is bad still prolly doesn't have much time with it or just doesn't give a ♥♥♥♥ about because the lok-1 is an amazing gun.

Not sorry for saying it is a complete and utter waste to use the coilgun to make a "shield" against swarmers.
If you're really serious about it beeing an "anti swarmer tools" i'll have to laugh at you.

I play more than enough h5 and got other ways to kill swarmers. Like any AC build, most for the hurricane and even some for the minigun. Hell even shooting them with a regular LS is far more ammo efficient.

No, the coil gun is not an anti swarmer tool, if anything the cooker is.
The coil gun is a aoe gun that works for lines of enemies.

Yes and no. Ideally you want both.
