Why it feels the sludge pump has ammo issues to some people.
the flamethrower unperked has 7 clips of 75 ammo, the sludge pump has 5 clips of 25 ammo unperked. Both weapons have roughly the same effects, with the sludge pump being much better, or it seems that its supposed to be much better, at 'ground fire' while the FT trades weaker ground fire for more friendly fire and direct damage.

So why not at least have them comparable clip amounts?

I think it's also partially people looking at their reserve post wave and going "43 ammo left? ermegerd I'm almost out!" without realizing that 43+full mag is still over half capacity. I use it a lot and I still have to remind myself that my ammo isn't "almost all gone"

The CSP empties a clip way slower than the flamethrower, though. They're both comparable in terms of time to use all ammo.

Sludge need a specifc kind awarness and playstyle, you need a feeling for enemy pathing for example to get most out of the „magazine“ simply in your face guns are not needing this so its not an issue there.

Plus lets not forget with a bit more attentiveness you can cover the same amount of ground with 5 units of flamethrower ammo as the charge shot does with all its upgrades. So the flamethrower has effectively triple the ammo. (But the ground fires last about 66% as long.)

Im really guilty of this with autocannon.

I get 440 reserve ammo and 220 loaded and yet whenever I see I have 220 + 220 left I feel like Im basically almost ded and only have one spare mag, got, the last maaaag.

Sludge pump can place 25-37.5 charge shot puddles. Each puddle lasts 12-18 seconds.

If you're using sludge pump just for making charge shot puddles to kill multiple enemies, you basically never run out of ammo.

If you use normal shots on absolutely everything, then yeah. I can see how someone can run out of ammo. Just like Sticky Flames OC and if people suddenly decided it's a good idea to deal direct-damage to everything instead of painting the ground.

Not true. 5 units of flamethrower ammo might be able to match the radius of a charge shot splash. The total area of a single splash is significantly larger.

The point is, the flamethrower with TRIPLE THE AMMO is almost exactly comparable to the sludge pump in its specialty area while the flamethrower is more generalist.

But it isn't. Sludge pump covers a much larger area for a longer period of time.

Does the flamethower blow up on impact dealing splash damage with additional damage from fragments flying off and hitting the main target and creating puddles while dumping immediate status DoT on targets without needing buildup?

Sticky Flames doesn't have the immediate spike damage and DoTs on DoTs that sludge pump does.
