Only the female medic.
The engineer for example is my least favorite as it seems to be pretty weak against enemies.
Scout has weapons that are generally good at taking out priority targets (either beefy or long range) but they have comparitivley little ammo.they are incredibly mobile, and have a flategun as a support tool that can light an entire cavern.
Gunner has some of the best guns (who'd have thought) high damage, lots of ammo, consistent dps, they also can bring a deployable shield that keeps bugs out, so they can protect themselves and allies (limited duration/charges) they are however the least mobile, even their weapons usually slow them down while firing, they do get to bring a Zipline though, which can be used to cross large gaps, or rain death from above :D
Driller, they Excel at swarm clear, most of there weapons bring lots of AOE, but usually struggle with big beefy targets (this is a generalization, weapons can be modified in SO many ways) where the driller really shines is terrain manipulation, you can dig tunnels, staircases, and with satchel charges, even create whole new rooms in blank walls, this can be used to move the whole team quickly, or create shelter and trenches or bunkers to defend yourself from bugs
Engineer while they also struggle ammo-wise (compared to gunner) they often have some of the highest kills counts, varied builds for single target or AOE, but the engineer brings turrets, and a platform gun that can be used to make bridges, shelter, or allow scouts to easily mine hard to reach mineral, with a little setup time, the engineer has tools to turn a deadly swarm into more if a shooting gallery for his team ;D
They are all a tone of fun, but play differently, nice thing is, none of them are required, you can run a team of 4 gunners, 2 engi, 2 driller, some classes do better then others in certain missions, but they all have the tools to get any job done :)
Best solo class overall is Gunner. (Deep Dives, EDD, just finish missions no 100% runs.)
In teams Gunner is the anchor, killing large threats. If you are new to the game always have a Gunner on Haz5. His shield makes everything easier. This EDD for example I had a bulk detonator spawn in mission 3 on the blackbox. Used shield, last will and shield again to tank him until the timer finished. If you have a Gunner you can just spam shield it makes everything super easy.
Engineer is the killing powerhouse. He kills all enemy types and is the overall main damage dealer. He is slightly weaker than a Gunner because he can get overwhelmed as he lacks a shield, this is true for point defenses.
Driller is ok for pipe missions or if you want to pick the cave clean but don't have an Enge/Scout combo. Overall the worst damage by far but really makes up with utility. You ignore terrain with a Driller in your team, but currently there is nothing impossible without one so his low damage really holds him back.
Scout is nice to light up the caves and his Engineer synergy. You see them sometimes left out in EDD in favour of a second gunner. He is the fastest miner and increases clean speeds tenfold. It really is whatever, Scout is fine I would always bring all 4 classes.
