Deep Rock Galactic
DRG-related dreams
Hello, dwarves.

Due to having experienced a quite immersive dream set in the caves of Hoxxes, just the other night, I wanted to ask if anyone else had any similar occurrences and what were they like.

I do recall someone on the forums mentioning one involving Bulk detonators, some time ago, but can't remember much else aside from that.

Now, I partially blame this on me playing this game a tad too much, on top of very frequently reading a lot of what gets posted in the DRG forums, but here goes mine:

In the dream I find myself in the middle of a mission, likely a mining expedition, along with two other dwarves. As it often happens during dreams, some things are a tad off: for instance, I'm playing as Gunner, but can use Driller's Subata, with which I shoot down some gunk seeds as we tread down through the dimly-lit caves, while my view alternates between first and third person.

About my two companions, one's a random Driller, while the second Gunner is none other than forum regular Chibbity himself, with which I often speak with in a 'in-game chat' manner about what to mine and such stuff, for all I can remember.

As the dream goes on, we have a bunch of unfriendly encounters with several types of glyphids and keep on exploring our surroundings, while mining gold and.. that's about it. All I can add is that it somewhat felt what I imagine the game in VR would be like x)

To conclude this mess of a post, another old dream now came to my mind, where as a dwarf I treaded on the bottom of a rocky canyon with no ceiling, causing daylight to filter from above; massive, steep walls on both sides and moss-like flora carpeting every bit of terrain while enormous, eel-like creatures some times emerged from random cracks in the walls.

So, yeah, in conclusion, don't play Deep Rock Galactic till 2am, or else Chibbity and giant eels will haunt your dreams.

Well, I knew a lot of people dreamed of playing with me someday, but this is taking it too literally! Lol. <3

Yeah, I've had dreams of playing games before as well, including DRG; but they are usually too muddled or confusing (different games often overlapping each other) to remember specifically in the morning.

Often when I do dream of gaming it's some kind of puzzle or task that I have to do over and over and over again in the dream in an effort to make it more efficient or "solve" it; but I never can. When I have dreams like those I find them to be very frustrating (I often wake up and then fall back asleep several times but the dream continues) and I wake up feeling as though I did not sleep very well. Which is weird cause I'm really more casual about most games.
The only one I remember is some hazy antics involving trying to reach a cargo crate guarded by like, a dozen leeches.
Had a dream a few weeks ago, that a photo realistic cave leech was hanging from the ceiling of my great aunt's living room. Nasty thing. The leech was pretty grody as well.
I never had dreams about DRG but sometimes when I do long sessions (3 hours plus) when I close my eyes I still see glyphids swarming down the cave walls.
Okay, so I'll preface this by saying I've deployed multiple times to Iraq, Afghanistan, and Syria. For years, I'd have dreams in night-vision green. Truly horrifying stuff, a lot of it.

So I had a dream that I exited a tunnel into a very large cavern. And the only reason I knew is because my footsteps started to echo (how the mind can conjure up such details is beyond me. I turn on an IR light on my helmet (not entirely DRG), and look up to see that its indeed a large cavern, somewhat smooth, high and vaulted, almost shaped like a funnel. And slowly, from the top at first, but then in a great wave it becomes clear that an absolutely massive swarm of bugs is descending the walls from upon high. The high walls look alive and its dripping down toward me. I turn around and run back down the tunnel. Dream ended with me lobbing grenades down what had become a positively choked corridor.

Crazy part was, it was all in green. And the grenade, felt like a real one; all the way down to how it felt to pull the pin. And I could feel the dust in my mouth.

Now some people might read this and feel sorry for me. But I'll tell you this. After twenty years you adapt and become positively amazed at the scary movie making machine the brain is.
Lately, I've been having DRG-related dreams almost every night. Well, It's usually just a small part of a dream. Usually it's just me and other dwarves mining stuff and fighting bugs and after this there is other dream stuff, more obscure. But today there was something unusual in my DRG part of a dream - a new type of a dreadnaught, a bulk detonator dreadnaught. It looked like a much bigger bulk detonator with two huge goofy eyes and it was "shooting" these orange globs that usually spawn and fly outwards when bulk detonator dies. It was shooting 2-3 of these globs almost every 10 seconds exploding everything around and leaving craters. Sadly we did not kill it because soon after this thing spawned I "moved" into another dream "location".

That's pretty wild! Amazing how the brain get's all those tiny little details right.

I think that's just the PTSD kicking in.

I remember watching some behind the scenes stuff about making L4D and the developers talking about how they had to reduce the volume of the gunfire effects because players were actually getting literal "combat fatigue."
Thank ye all for your additions; very interesting to read about such different experiences!

Honestly, I was having a good time haha After waking up (and then proceeding to fall asleep again, as per usual) I hoped to continue that expedition :D

By the way, I know that feeling of not wanting to continue a 'stressing' dream. It's been a long time since it last happened to me, but years ago it was the norm, especially with nightmares. You do get up distressed. Mining with some pals' definitely much better!

Never once dreamed about one of those. I find them cool, but those situations feel borderline nightmarish lol

I don't frequently dream anymore, but I've had a fair share of those transitioning situations in dreams, in the past. It can be both good when you hate the situation you're in, and annoying when it's an interesting one, for sure. That Bulk Dreadnought sounds like a sight ot behold, though!

Feel like I'd be both anxious and yet interested in such a dream. That's a really detailed and enjoyable description, by the way, thank you!

It somewhat reminded me of the pre-alpha versions of DRG, as well. At some point they even did introduce a night vision, if I recall correctly (there's a youtube channel by the name of DRG Historian that showcases many of these bizarre, old versions). The overrall settings were also much more eerie, compared to the game we have now.
Anyways, thanks again for sharing, lad :pickax:

Looking back at those times, the darkness was much more suffocating and claustrophobic than the way it is today. It's hard to describe, like when entering a dark cave you can almost immediately sense the scale and shape of it, almost like it has a depth to it.

Back then it was just...pitch, inky, blackness. Kind of miss it. Nowadays when you don't have any flares to light up a cavern it's more of an annoyance than anything.
I know I've had at least one DRG-related dream, but it was over a year ago so I don't recall what it was about. I vaguely recall that glyphids weren't the focus, though, it was darkness and flares.

It was beautiful. Fully lifelike. Unless someone else has dreamed it, nobody has seen a higher rez bulk than me.

It costs a little more than $5000 per american worker to generate a trillion dollars in general revenue. That's more or less the defense budget on a given year, depending on what we have going on. If you're American, and you work, I should thank you, too.

(Sorry, I point that out to everyone who thanks me...what we do is damn expensive, and you pay for it. I wish people took a more active interest in it. My personal and anonymous opinion is that you all are mostly wasting your money on wars that don't really benefit you. Next time the government fights, ask yourself if it will really make you safer and/or more prosperous. If it won't, consider opposing it.)
Unfortunately I am not a big dreamer, as a kid I had some cool dreams but nowadays I can only think of 2-3 dreams in 10 years.

2 were nightmares really ♥♥♥♥♥♥ ones the 3th way some wack ♥♥♥♥ about me turning super saiyajin (lol)

Unfortunately no Deep REM Galactic.
