Is Scout's Jury Rigged Boomstick even good?
Now I'm not an Overclock maniac but looking at the boomstick compared to the Zhukovs I see no reason to use it.

Anyone have ideas why people use it or why you do? I dunno if I'm missing something.

I use it. Zhukovs are just always felt like hot garbage, anyway so not much choise.
Its not that powerful, but with fire upgrade is fairly decent. Some people use it to fly with knockback OC, i just use stuffed shels.

I can only speak for myself, and I find the zhukovs far superior. I want to use the boomstick, but it is just not worth it. IMO it is the worst weapon in the game, and the only one I never use even thoug special powder is a fun OC.

I always felt like the zhukovs run out of ammo too fast, and while I respect cryo minelets and the explosive reload, they’re not really my style.

I guess it just comes down to what you’re using your secondary for, and the shotgun is better for crowd control (Better blowthrough + Fire that spreads among large clusters of enemies)

Also, special powder. Absolutely fantastic for mobile scout builds, but I typically trade it for more ammo/dmg instead

I've tried both extensively and ultimately boomstick won me over for its impressive burst damage; and that wonderful overclock that can blast you across the map, or prevent death from falls.

The thing that kills the zhukovs for me is how awful the accuracy is at mid-range, and how fast the clips empty.

Scout already has decent mid-to-long-range capability with the primary weapons. In that sense Zukhovs just feel like a low-damage, poor-accuracy version of the deepcore assault rifle. And the clip just vanishes. I guess it's supposed to be burst damage but I think boomstick does it better.

Are you looking at their stats or comparing how they work in actual gameplay? Because the game lies about pistols stats. The second gun doesn't do damage, so you need to divide rof/magsize/ammo by half to get the real numbers.
If you are taking that into account then shotgun is still good. Being able to stun is good. Blast wave is useful for killing swarmers or naedocytes. It has a better blowthrough upgrade than pistols (max 4 enemies hit vs max 2) do so that's cool. The fire damage+heat upgrade is nice too since a lot of enemies are weak to fire, and igniting them is free damage on top of that. Got a lot of good things going on.

I've used the boomstick with jumbo shells since the dawn of time, never changed it at all.

Pair with cryo nades you can instakill oppressors & praetorians

Also good for killing groups of bugs with blowthrough rounds

Scout shotty is good. Basically it's the weapon you pull out when you need breathing room and/or reliable way to remove a couple of enemies in a short span of time.

Alternatively you can build it as your armour break for specific enemies (brundle, shellback) since those are the biggest annoyances for Scouts.

Others just use it as another mobility tool that does damage.

It's also one of those weapons that has very few bad builds as long as it's used to compliment your primary. You just need to pick a balance of damage/ammo with whatever utility that suits your needs.

Me too. Apart from cryo nades you can also swing behind a Praetorian/Oppressor, two shots into the back and a pickaxe swing and it's almost gone on haz4/5 and it only takes about two seconds to do that. And that with one ammo upgrade (and thus a bit less damage) because otherwise ammo count is too low.

The fear upgrade with blowthrough is also good if you need some breathing room while the grappling hook is on cooldown.

Frozen enemies don't take bonus damage to weakspots so unless its going to unfreeze before you can kill it theres no point in swinging around the back

Special powder.

I have almost never used Zhukovs after unlocking Special Powder. Sure, freezing enemies is nice which boosts your combat capabilities by a lot but Boomstick with Special Powder is just a game changer for me. I lost count how many times engis don´t seem to care about platforms whatsoever, with Special Powder you don´t need them. While you could theoretically also do the same without using it, chances are, you will fail to grapple perfectly every time you try to power-attack gold midair and land in that hole which results in fall damage. SP eliminates that completely. Also, with penetration it becomes a great swarm clearer if they get too close to you and let´s not forget about the fun when you are flying through caves ;)

Promoted my Scout to legendary 3 and a couple times over it and rarely used Zhukovs in that time, not saying they are bad but I prefer boomstick with my playstyle.

Rock and Stone!

I said 'apart from cryo nades', in other words 'even without cryo nades'.

Ive used special powder ever since I got it. Zhukovs used to be hot garbage for the longest time, and even now it feels like they run out of ammo too fast. Using it with born ready means you never have to worry about fall damage again, and you can just fly across an entire cave in seconds.
Explosive reload being usable now is cool but I still feel like boomstick is better, even when I'm not using a damage OC.

I can't speak for it compared to the Zhukovs since I have no interest in trying them, but blowing up a crowd by shooting a Prethorean cloud with fire mod will never get old.
