- how many players are on the server
- what mission type it is (escort eats the most)
- how many enemies are on screen (higher hazards run worse)
- if you're the host (host have lower fps since they're running the whole server)
- what biome it is
So in theory you'll have the most fps by playing solo on lower hazards in something like a mining expedition and simple biome.
For majority of people the bottleneck will probably be the CPU so changing your graphic settings will do little to nothing but it's worth a try.
Speak for yourself. Allot of users have no issue.
Yes, if your standards for performance is as low as 30 fps, there's no issue. But this is not enough for a lot of people.
What are your specs?
I'm playing w/ a 3080ti & i9 10900k @ 1440p on max settings with 200+ fps and dips to lowest 120 during crazy ♥♥♥♥. Lot of my friends have similar or worse hardware and run the game fine.

Depends which users you are referring to. Are you referring to 1060 and 970 users? Which according to the steam survey is the most common series people have especially with the gpu shortage?
@OP
Try dx 11 mode and check if your cpu is holding yo uback or the gpu
The experience was still great. I was still able to complete all those EDDs, even with my pals who were greenbeards back in the days. My only complaint was that M1000 is very hard to handle when the FPS is too low (20-ish).
Now it runs perfectly smooth with my 3060Ti and 144Hz monitor.
Simply put, "60 stable FPS" is a luxury in a somewhat fancy game. You need better specs.
I'm interested, adding you and we do it later, thanks!
I needed a bit of tweaking the settings to get it run with more or less stable 60fps on UWQHD with a 1070.
So if you are playing on higher resolutions, your 970 might be the bottleneck.
With high entities count (like swarmers and golden bugs) i also become occasionally single-thread-cpu bottlenecked.
First you should take a look at how much your gpu is utilized while playing. If it is not 99% then something else is the bottleneck. If it is at 99% most likely your gpu is the bottleneck.
The game plays well on better systems. I play nowadays with a 6900xt and 2700x in UWQHD at stable framecapped 100fps and the gpu is still bored.
I also assume we are not talking about a laptop and accidently run the game on the CPUs iGPU?

"Simply put $2000+ worth of components into your PC and you'll get stable FPS."
I mean, yeah, but the most popular graphics card according to Steam remains the GTX 1080 or something like that. The vast majority of users cannot afford top of the line hardware, which I'm sure you're aware of, which makes me not understand the point of the post.
