It's a badly designed mutator that multiplies just how terrible it is for every greenbeard in the party.
Who ya gonna call?
There's somethin' weird and it don't look good
Who ya gonna call?
It sure as hell ain't the dwarves, they're too busy mining.
Honestly, the best course of action is to have someone kite the ghost around in a circle so the others can get the mission done (any class can do it and each has advantages). If the mission is Low O2, best to drop a one or two supply pods on opposite ends of a large room for the person on ghost duty. (If the room is large enough there can be additional methods to make the room even more suited to kiting by spending resources, but I provided the simplest way.)
I tried it once, when it first came out, and have never, ever played it again- the only time I see the Blue "Ghost" Detonator are those rare times it pops up in Deep Dives- and yes, it's not hard, but it's annoying, unnecessary, and just wastes time- If you're Solo, it gets in the way constantly, making a mission not worth going thru- if you're on a Team, one player will be forced to distract it, wasting that player's time, and peeling that player away from completing the objectives
Shortly after the Bulk Detonators came out, they announced the "Haunted" Mutator, and seeing it I thought "It's just a Bulk, but unkillable, screw this" - I've always felt that if there was a rotating "Pool" of possible Ghosts it might change things up a Little at Least- a pack of 5 Ghost Grunts, a small flight of Ghost Mactera, a Ghost Warden- I still probably would never play the Mutator, but the Idea put out there was the Ghost was a "special mystery enemy" and it's just an unkillable Bulk D
In general I think the frequency of Bulk Ds to Exploder Packs should be swapped- I see a Bulk D (and then eventually the 2nd and 3rd) around 4X more than Exploder Packs being part of an enemy generation outside of an Exploder Swarm Mutator- back when I first started in 2018-2019, Exploders and Cave Leeches were abundant in EVERY Mission- Now all the enemy variety has been excellent, but Exploders now seem under represented, and Cave Leeches are very rare, even with a Cave Leech Mutator, I sometimes see only 2, right next to each other- Leeches would sometimes be 1-3 in more that one cave, I remember seeing 6 in a big nasty cluster, way before the Mutators- Heck, even though I KNOW Leeches are rare, I STILL scan every ceiling in a new cave, that's how Ingrained Leech Paranoia is in me back from when they were numerous
He is only annoying if you play in solo, because in multiplayer it isn't an issue since it can be kited by one player till the others are doing the job.
In solo....it always follows you.
Fair point. I don't see it as scarry but can clearly see why some people may be scared of it. The devs did a very good job with the sound effect and backround ambient to make it feel like that.
For example I did a solo Point Extraction with Haunted Cave mutator. Game went fine as Bosco did all the mining so I focused on scouting and kiting. When the drop pod came it spawned inside a wall with no tunnel leading to it so I had to dig to it. I was playing as a Gunner so digging was slow. I lured the Ghost away and digged through that wall like my life depended on it. Ghost nearly caught up too. If that ghost wasn't there, that game would've been dull so it has its uses
