Why is promotion useful?
it gives you something? I've not reached level 25 yet

I found much of the stuff that requires a promotion before figuring out how to get one. Don't need to be level 25 to have a look around the space rig, is all I'm saying.

Beyond the first promo it does nothing besides making your portrait border shiner and letting you make your player level go higher.

Let's not pretend that the game goes out of it's way to explain the point of the promotion system... Seems like a perfectly reasonable question to ask.

First promotion is important, you get an extra active perk, and will be able to do machine events and deep dives for over locking weapons :D

After that, it's just for show, lets other people know roughly how much experience you have on a class :)

I thought it did that perfectly fine, guess it depends what you mean by "goes out of its way". Having consoles that say you need a promotion to use them, and once you hit 25 you get an assignment and buncha blabber to let you know what to do and where to go. Worked fine for me.

The one single thing I'd add is voicelines/HUD text for machine events, I spent a good while exploring them before finding out that you have to be promoted to use them.

well you get special assigments until player (blue) level 100, and you dont get more blue levels if you cant increase class levels which cap at lvl 25 so you need a few promotions or you cant get all the cosmetics that come with those assigments.

Let's not pretend that all the signs aren't there, if one but opens their eyes.

EDIT: That is to say, it's out in the open and actually described in-game. Outright in your face as soon as you 'discover' the perk system. No one wants a game to force them through fifteen dialogue boxes, just for the information to be accessible and easily found (which it is, in the case of Deep Rock Galactic).

Also you'll get kicked from haz 5 games less :Rubber_Duck:
Sokaku Mar 16, 2022 @ 1:49pm
And kicked from hazard 3 games more. :)

My cynical advice is to promote your dwarfs to Silver 3 and then stop there. You should keep the try-hards happy to play with them on Haz 5/EDD if that is your thing, and won't scare off the casuals if you want a relaxing evening shepparding Greenbeards.

Can't say I agree with your definition of "accessible", but hey, no skin off my nose.
