Game allows mods ? Really ?
So i just found out the developers decide that allowing players to build and have mods with no filtering with the other players is a good idea.
I am not sure people understand how bad this is, because this just destroy any competitiviness and balance this game will ever have.
And looking how the game was built, I dont think it would be easy to fix it, or even if the developer understand the problem or care.

So, can you mod a game to give you tons of gold, minerals, and all the crates/lost mining supplies - 50+ events per level?
Pretty sure its not that kind of "mods".
Those are ussualy called "cheats"
Well you could mod a level with all that.
Man this game so far to me is akin to tf2, it's just a fun time not a competition.

The only mods I want is one that can remove that stupidly useless foregrip on the Engineer's Stubby. Like, for Karl's sake, if the engie isn't going to use it, don't attach it!

Same for Neon Band for the same gun tbh.

Even if there will be something like that , IT will still be a persons choice to do it.
And if they can do it then , well downloading a trainer or Cheat engine wouldn't be far off.

So the answer is yes - which effectively makes minerals pointless and gold pointless. Careful where you go, developers.
Its easily avoidable, for instance i have never been in a modded game in about 300 hours. You should spend more time learning the game instead of complaining about it in a thread, on Reddit and also in a negative review on steam.

Especially with the low amount of hours you have invested in it. Stick around longer, we will teach you how to grow out that beard.

people can cheat in stuff like that without modding support. it wouldn't make much of a difference whether doing something like that is allowed or not

That is exactly whats going to happen with update 34.

Why do you think devs are including a server tag/filter option for modded/unmodded games... ?

It depends on the developers in regard to defining the idea of cheating and the consequence - albeit there is no competitive nature in this game so there is no real point to a consequence especially if modding is allowed.

The 'grind' of any game is a bit silly -- I can understand the idea of progression -- but the progression should be based on skill and over-coming an obstacle i.e. the event/boss/level not on the pure idea of 'grind.'

Grinding is a time sink developed as a way to deny end-game content until some artificial barrier has been completed which is absolutely arbitrary and a total waste of time as well as evidence a game lacks content.

If the developers want to allow modding - which is fine - then doing away with the idea of 'mining for the sake of content' is probably beneficial to the game when it comes to 'rare minerals and gold' as these are just artificial time sinks that block off some content i.e weapon upgrades and cosmetics.

Nitra / Morkite are different in the sense you only get them for the level and they are 'key' items to achieve a goal or to buff you on the way to a goal.

so you're saying they should remove the progression before modders do it for them?

Might as well remove any kind of time sink as they are pointless once mods exist.

You can mod a game to give you maximum /whatever/ and boost your character to break any artificial time sink barrier.

The only person being benefited from these mods are typically the mod-developers themselves who may or may not release these mods to the general public to skip past artificial barriers of entry.

Most of us who have already put in 100 hours into a game have passed any artificial barrier a long time ago so it need not apply to those who already played.

As to the point of modding communities within steam - it is typically to make a game have better graphics, introduce nuanced ideas to a game that don't exist, and perhaps align a popular mod into the game as a natural feature. Modding isn't bad. Grinding is bad. Modding solves grinding. Modding can have an alternative effect on things like 'steam achievements' and some people take these achievements 'seriously' and will be 'unhappy' that a mod exists where you can one shot all dreadnaught bosses with a pickaxe attack and thus earn X achievement 'easily' with a mod where as 'they' had a 'hard time' achieving some achievement - whatever that happens to be.

Mind you there are games you can buy on steam that will grant you 30000000000 achievements and 'steam levels' for completing said 'bogus game.'

I've never really understood the idea of steam levels and achievements beyond a thing to put on your profile as something silly. I review and rate games with a thumbs down even though I play them often and vice versa - a good game with a thumbs up yet I played it only 10 hours.

Some developers understand how to make a good game for a proper price model - and others do not.

As i said before, even without modding support people still hack in more levels and whatnot. You just edit the save file. Removing the grind from drg would drastically restructure the game, which the devs aren't going to do. And if we follow your logic, we might as well remove all resources and let everyone have every single unlock in the game from the start, because they can just mod it in anyways.

And me and others would still play the game - because it is fun and well designed.

The challenge areas are the EDD and Haz 5 maps on Bramble zones.
Normal and modded progression will likely be separate, like the experimental servers.

This is also supported by the announcement of a save management system coming alongside modding support.

Vermintide 2 is a good example as well, modded players only play with modded players, the server lists are segregated.
