It could be completely changed/scrapped/reworked.
They scrapped an entire biome a few weeks before U33 was released. I'm not putting much stock in what we've seen yet. I took nothing more from it than "see, we really have been working on stuff."
It's also more than "oh hey we've been working on stuff" considering they have new mechanics/systems implemented for that stuff, so it's not out of the question completely that they'll end up using them either sooner or later, especially since we always have the secondaries that will come later. It's kind of pessimistic to write off new prototyped mechanics/weapons just because an unfun thing got scrapped for a more fun one. Do agree that we shouldn't get overly excited or attached (like caustic mires, but that's a weird one, as I don't know how people got attached to it just from a few concept art images)
Just don't envy the work they have to put into balance and over clocks.
Wild speculation can lead to disappointment.
But yes, I am excited that there will be more weapons in general.
