Why? They are hideous.
I'm not sure "iconic" is a good thing in this case, no offense.
Prolly not great PR to associate your game with anything that was "iconic" of the German military during the periods of WW1 or WW2. (Unless you're doing like a historically accurate game.) I mean, do you think a "Deaths Head SS officer cap" would be a good addition? It's VERY iconic.
Not trying to be a soy boy about it, but I just don't think it would be a good business decision, too much room for controversy. It has the potential to turn into a scandal.
I said the periods of WW1 or WW2. "Germany at war" isn't exactly something you want to relate your product too, regardless of the specific war.
I agree there is nothing wrong with it in the context of a historically accurate game. Same with any iconography they used, I'm not one of those people who wants Swastika's replaced with German flags in my WW2 games. We shouldn't censor history.
Again, I have no personal issue with it, and my only thought upon seeing it in the game would be "damn, that's an ugly hat" however, I don't think it would be a good PR move as I said above. The news can make a scandal about anything if they have a mind to. "DRG devs add infamous spiked Nazi helmet to game" isn't the headline you want to see, and yes I know that headline would be grossly inaccurate, but that's how these things happen. Because most people don't know any of the details, and won't care to look them up, they'll just go with the knee-jerk reaction.
I wouldn´t call a SS cap iconic.
Exactly.
Might be true but keep in mind that there still is the british hat from WW1 already within the game. It would just be nice if we had similiar hats from other factions of that war within the game. ;-)
I also would like to see french, belgian or russian hats too!
Not saying that's right, the winner writes history and all that; but it is how it is.
I mean, I wouldn't use the hat anyway, but I wouldn't think the concept would be offensive.
It's a pretty common videogame accessory anyway and combined with the Roughnecks DLC you'd be able to make a badass biker lookalike
Okay, when I put it like that, I could see myself using it.
"pretty common" "seen in lots of games" Uhh.. Which? I don't remember a single game with one of these in it.
If they kept the german-esque shell design but making it look more like the Death Korps of Krieg from 40k, and put a mohawk of spikes on the top to make it look more like a punk biker helmet, I think it would pass. Maybe even have a goggle/no goggle variant.
Also:
The Pickelhaube (plural Pickelhauben; from the German Pickel, "point" or " PICKAXE ", and Haube, "bonnet", a general word for "headgear"), also Pickelhelm, is a spiked helmet worn in the 19th and 20th centuries by Prussian and German military, firefighters and police. Although typically associated with the Prussian Army, which adopted it in 1842–43,[1] the helmet was widely imitated by other armies during that period.[2] It is still worn today as part of ceremonial wear in the militaries of certain countries, such as Sweden, Chile, and Colombia...
So...why are you talking about the eternally undead guy again?
