What is mod.io?
I have never heard of it, what is it? Is it okay that devs decided to rely on this for modding?

I dont want to argue about mod support, its okay, but I just never heard of that service, so Im kina suspicious and worried.

In case it helps, I made a thread explaining a bit about Mod.io over on the Space Engineers forum when their forced registration controversy occurred. Might elaborate some things: https://steamcommunity.com/app/244850/discussions/0/4939856028575137998/

On a random note; I was, and still am tired of API providers and "Tech" websites using .io domain.

It was funny and inventive for about 10 seconds, when the first computer scientist did it. Now it is a stale meme like adding "i" to the front of rip off Apple products, and/or "Pro" onto the end of anything.

does this somehow grant them more control over their whitelist or something?

That would be my best guess as mod.io probably has that ready made or part of the API allows it to be created.

You see, this is what baffles me. People keep mentioning that Steam Workshop doesn't support a whitelisting system. Yet, here I am, an original Killing Floor player, who used to hotsub to whitelisted (yes, the progress-allowed kind, just like what's proposed for DRG) Steam Workshop mods pretty frequently.

I also dont understand why they didnt use Nexus since its the most well known and possibly used modding site that is safe reliable and easy to use and find.

I have nothing against Mod.io but its really vague and as someone who has been modding games for years i instantly said "what tf is that?" lol it just seems like it would be more user friendly to use nexus

I can understand why not Nexus. GSG wants an integrated delivery system that ensures all users have the same version of installed mods. Nexus doesn't guarantee version parity as their (terrible) mod manager is optional, users have to manually update mods, previous/alternate versions can be served by authors, and they provide no integration services. Mod.io and Steam Workshop both enforce mandatory version parity and have integration.

They put plasma mining in their game. You a fan of plasma mining now?

Or actually, forget that one. Remember when it took you like a second to pick up flowers/fossils/mushrooms? That was a mistake. Even the devs agreed it was a mistake, which is why they got rid of it. It's possible for them to make bad decisions sometimes. Nobody's perfect.

Oh, just to be clear, I'm not saying this site is bad. I know nothing about it. Just that them picking it doesn't automatically make it good. Maybe it's great though, I don't know.

what an insightful and valued contribution, why not spam this in another 500 threads with no further elaboration?
