Keep in contact. Give it 6 months and out of the blue he'll hear "You're so sweet and such a gentleman, but". Ask the other friend though, text based communication is already a god send for depression/anxiety (we've all been there at some point).

lol well to each their own, i've only had good matches with randos. The few that were duds didn't make me butthurt enough to not keep finding matches. If i had to rely on my friends to play this masterpiece, i wouldn't have ever gotten too lol

Give him the DLC's as a hint that you want to play again.
Maybe send in the invite, a message like: hey lets play this game again soon.
If you have other friends who dont have this game yet, but they might enjoy it, tell them how good it is through text messages (phone if you can).
Maybe even go as far as to buy it for them, if they show interest.

Starting a game (buying it, and actualy starting it up) tends to be a much bigger step, than having a game bought for you. People are more likely to install it and check it out, since its already there in their face.
If money is an issue, just ask them through text chat, cassualy.

People who dont respond or half arsed, are either too busy or not real friends.

Hm. I mean, blackmailing, bribing him with money, murdering and yada yada is always an option, but at this point the ends do not justify the means, I guess.
You could try changing your friend for someone else. For example, you could try becoming my long term sex romantic partner and rewarding me for playing drg with you. Just an idea.
