Have a good read.
Pretty cool indeed. It means GSG is financially backed up if anything goes wrong so their studio will not just disappear. On the even brighter side, it seems that Embracer has absolutely no interests in meddling in their work. They are basically providing them with a safety net and getting some profit out of it themselves.
Coffee Stain is indeed the publisher of GSG. They work with them in tandem. But GSG as a company got bought by Embracer (Coffee Stain too, a while ago IIRC)
If I am not wrong, Embracer had a 30% stake in Ghost Ship through Coffe Stain acquisition, so they decided to purchase the remaining 70%, alongside 5 or 6 other studios. Seems that the whole ordeal took them 100 mil cash and 200 mil in Embracer stock? It was too corporate for me to really pay full attention I just know I saw 200 ish mil on top of 100 ish mil of cash for their 6-7 studio acquisition deal(s).
We don't know about that part. I've read the press release concerning GSG and there was no information given because both decided to not released that information to the public. So it's completely unknown for me so far.
I haven't really looked very far into it though so I probably missed a lot of things.
yes, Jacob is spot on with his comment.
I have met Lars several times. We went to his office in Karlstad (an appropriate name, right?) to shake hands on the deal. And Lars is the most no-♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ business guy I have ever met. Super pragmatic and basically just a nerdy collector."
Embracer and Lars Wingefors have bought Ghost Ship because of the way we have handled the success of Deep Rock. And the way we have involved our community. Lars is not at all interested in changing anything at Ghost Ship.
We will stay as independent as before, but now just in a much stronger position, where we will continue to support DRG for years to come. And we will continue and strengthen our already fantastic relationship with Coffee Stain.
If you need some reassurance on this, then just check Coffee Stain and how they have faired. They still operate as independently as they did before they were acquired by Lars and Embracer. They continue to be both in control of their games and their business.
And so will Ghost Ship."

However multiple sites seem to report that Embracer has an 8 year plan of paying bonuses to the bought companies based on some kind of internal performance metrics. So there's that
For anyone not in the-know, Lars Wingefors is the CEO of Embracer Group that purchased Ghost Ship Games.
Hopefully this is a good thing for us all.
There are so many companies that ruin games, series, game creators, and destroy companies... for profit.
Then again Activision always was a terrible company, so that Blizzard turned into something bad was to be expected, when they merged.
Same as if you sell your soul to EA. Then again EA does not buy companies, it bankrupts them first and then buys the cheap stocks.
There are a lot of names in gaming that i avoid like the plague, non of those i recognize under the ''Embracer Group''.
I do have some good experiences with some companies under that group however, so i hope that stays true in the future.
heres hoping they actually keep to those words and don't mess with DRG for the worst
We're very, VERY, far from Acti-blizzard in literally every way honestly.
GSG won't suddenly turn into a big studio that try to milk the community as much as possible while trying to cover up for all their ♥♥♥♥.
^ pretty much this. Embracer has been doing well so far. They don't even deal in the same kind of games as companies like EA, acti-blizzard and such. They are known for letting studios keep their freedom. Hopefully it stays that way for a very long while.
