What is this giant stone with red crystals?
I found a giant stone with with tiny red crystals on it, with 4 boxes boxes forming a square with pipes around it and a box next to it but I can't interact with it and it's indestructible

can someone explain what can I do with it?

It's a machine event, a challenge, so to speak, that you can randomly find in the caves.

There are currently four, different types and they can be activated via inserting a Tritilyte key in the grey box that is always found along with them.

You will receive the Tritilyte key upon first promoting any dwarf; once you reach class level 25 (the red one), you will be given a promotion assignment to complete.

Once that'll be done, you'll be able to promote at the promotion terminal in the Memorial Hall, by spending some credits and minerals (Those bloody elves up in Management make us pay fehr anythin' nowadays, oi'm tellin' ye!).

Anyway, any promoted dwarf in your team can activate machine events, so you likely won't have to wait until you promote, in order to try one; most dwarves enjoy doing them, too.

On a last note, the event that you found is called a Tritilyte Deposit: after activating it, you'll have to start up the four, small platforms that surround it; shortly after, Mission Control will announce the arrival of a bomb dispenser somewhere not too far from the event.

You need to find it, pick up explosives, move back to the crystal and throw em on it until you destroy it.

The dispenser placement can be tricky to get to, at times, but that's part of the fun, I say (by using each dwarf's traversal tools properly, no dispenser should be unreachable, though).

These events grant you a fair chunk of extra XP and, after you'll promote, you will also get access to special missions which grant a few rewards to unlock via completing these machine events.

Sorry for the long message; got myself a tad carried away.

Wish you the best of luck and especially tons of fun down there in the depths, lad!

It’s a machine event. Once you’ve promoted at least one dwarf you’ll get a special key that can activate them, and get various rewards if you complete the event.
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

My god. We thought we lost that one!

It is a Tritilyte Deposit!

Tell me you mined it!?! You found Karl!?! He is supposedly locked within one for all of time! Only through opening it up with explosives can we save our hero.

I thought we needed the error cubes to find Karl?

Well, well! A Tritilyte deposit! We thought we'd lost this one!
As you can see, previous teams tried getting through the outer shell of this thing, but failed. We're sending in a Nanite Bomb Dispenser for you - if those can't penetrate it, nothing will.

The error cubes are made into the nanite bombs (5 error cubes=enough bombs to blow up a tritalite)

The others covered it pretty well, but for more info about the events, in general:

https://deeprockgalactic.fandom.com/wiki/Machine_Events

I'll also add that you still get some credits and XP for an event if you fail, so you (or someone in the team) can just start an event, leave it, and let the timer run out. That might actually be a little dangerous with an Ebonite event (with the Overcharge Sprinkler), if some of them follow you or spawn near you. Otherwise, it should be safe to do, as long as you don't stay in the area (the drones from an Omen event can be a threat if you're not far enough away).

Thanks for the tips
