Going insane trying to get sensitivity controls right
I don't think this is necessarily a "bug" so I'm putting this in general discussion.

I've been trying to find the right sensitivity for aiming for like an hour now (my PC crashed a while ago, apparently causing all my mouse sensitivity controls to be reset).

What's frustrating to all hell is that, it seems like, when I put a setting too high, lowering it back down STILL keeps my mouse zooming around like it's made of butter. For example, I can have my "aim acceleration" at 22%. Okay. Too slow, so I change it to 25%. Too fast, so I change it to 23%. Seemingly no difference from 25%. Okay, weird, so I bring it back to 22%... still too fast. What is going on.

I've tried everything. But it seems impossible to find the right sensitivity because the moment I bring a setting up and then back down again, it stays at that higher setting.

Also for some reason, very minor numbers seem to cause EXTREME differences. For instance, I was manually editing the X and Y mouse speeds (under Controls), I had my X speed at 500. It felt sluggish as hell. But at a mere 501, it's like my mouse is sliding through oil. (Of course, going back down to 500 again keeps it that way...)

I'm at a loss here. I feel like I'll never get the right sensitivity ever again.

Some mice have a DPI button, did you try that? Are you messing with these in-game or through your mouse's software?

You need to resync your head. Please turn of you (go sleep) and try again after restart. (Tomorrow after you wake up.)

In-game settings. My mouse is at a good sensitivity outside of the game.

Not at my computer, but I assume these are kept in some sort of .ini file. Maybe deleteing it or messing with the settings there could help.

The aim acceleration in particular is just for controllers, shouldn't change anything on a mouse.

If other settings are not saving though, make sure the .ini file itself isn't set on "read only."

I think you are changing the wrong sliders:

Inner dead zone
Aim sensitivity
Aim acceleration
These are controller settings.

Vertical mouse sensitivity
Horizontal mouse sensitivity
These are mouse settings.

I swear to god aim acceleration does something. I tested by putting it at its absolute maximum value, then testing it at its lowest, I could definitely feel a difference.

Maybe I'm going insane for real

Hmmm...do you have a controller plugged in maybe?

Just thought of another thing you could check... make sure you don't have a profile set in your mouse software for DRG, I remember a game giving me issues like this and it was due to the profile settings acting multiplicatively with the in-game settings. How this would ever just randomly happen one day is beyond me, but worth a check.

Hope you find a solution!

I probably sound like a total idiot, but how/where do I check this?

It's software(Logitech, Razer, whatever) that you would have downloaded to configure your mouse, update drivers, make it do extremely unnecessary LED lightshows, etc.

If you don't have it, then that suggestion is likely just a huge Red Herring.

As far as I know experts always recommend to disable aim acceleration.

I read a year ago that even setting it to zero does not disable it fully. Glad I am not ad sensitive to these settings, casual ftw!

Aim acceleration is made purely for controller. It's the rate at which the camera accelerates when you move a joystick. Basically, it makes turning starts slow then go faster overtime as to not overshoot what you want to look at by moving your joystick too far on accident.
As such, it doesn't apply to mouse controls.

I'll go with the "troubleshooting insanity" syndrome. Happens to everyone when you're desperately trying to fix something that was working fine before and being unable to find the fix.
GL fixing it, I really have no idea what makes the sensitivity so weird.
