The game gets boring really fast
I played the game a few hours yesterday, and already I don't want to start it up again:
- A lot of grind for very meagre perks at the start or getting enough credits to upgrade your character
- Technologically advanced universe where e.g. machines exist to tunnel down into the earth with ease, robots(mule) that can easily find their way to you while traversing any surface or rezzing dead party members by opening a flask, but then I have to run around mindlessly to find and mine different minerals/resources with 0 information on my HUD with a few specific exceptions to that like e.g. alien eggs
- I'm more than annoyed that the map isn't a part of the UI in form of a minimap, and instead I have to very frequently use tab to see where I'm going, where my party members are, where the map objectives are etc.
- Why are there no markers for my party members or map objectives on my HUD so that I don't have to look at the map all the time?

none of these are real problems. if you bothered to actually play the game, you'd know that your 4th point is absolutely invalid, since you can hold ctrl to see party members

but i do agree, this game gets boring fast

1) This game has no grind. You play the game and unlock things naturally.

2) Logic does not always make sense for game design purposes. If you don't like exploring caves, finding minerals, and mining them, then you bought the wrong game.

3) This is likely a design choice to force players to orient themselves without using a map as a crutch. It makes for some interesting scenarios when you need to decide whether checking your map is more worthwhile than getting your leg chewed off. Love it or hate it, it is what it is.

4) Hold CTRL.

If you don't like the game then don't play it. Cya.

1. That's your personal taste. The grind in this game, I think, is meager compared to similar games where grinding is required, like Vermintide.

2. Finding minerals is easy. Use your eyeballs.

3/4. Honestly having a constant minimap would be annoying for me. Once you get the hang of how each mission type's cave generation works, you hardly need the map at all. A minimap would just get in the way. Making it slow to use was a conscious choice as well. It forces you to clear out any enemies you're fighting first before you can use it. If you ask me, it's much more immersive. To each their own I guess. It's not getting changed either way.

You're either a hater, or enjoy something long enough to become a shill. There is no in-between. :winter2019tiredyul:

I like chocolate icecream and will defend it to my death. People want to change it to vanilla and call people icecream shills.

You could defend grind in any game by saying that.

- Sorry but the grind is not all that big at all, unless you really want every piece of cosmetic. It's not a MMO/warframe/dead by daylight/pick whatever with endless grind

- Are you... really complaining about not being able to find stuff ? What ?? Even if exploration isn't that big of a deal, it's still part of the game.

- You can also just tap *control* to see everything around, you don't need to open the map everytime unless you want detailled information

- Then again, just tap control.

I mean, the game can get repetitive for some people, I get that. But none of your complaints really are actual complaints...

No you absolutely couldn't. Some games have obnoxious grind. Technically even when you're grinding you're "playing the game and unlocking things naturally" but a game having grind implies either;

1. Playing just to unlock things isn't fun. or,
2. There's an incentive to pay to unlock things faster.

DRG is fun to play (opinion) and you'll quickly get the credits/minerals needed to unlock things without much of a focus on grinding. And there's no incentive to pay to unlock things faster. Hell, there's no micro-transactions whatsoever.

It depends on your definition of "grind", ours simply differ. Being forced to do repetitive, monotonous tasks when you would rather be doing something else is, very broadly speaking, a grind. Sure, you could play word games and "prove" to me that you can define any game as a grind, but I think we both know what we are talking about here.

I think lorewise they send you down there, because even though there are machines that can technically deal with any situation that occurs, they have you down there to supervise and make sure things dont go wrong. I mean, if you bothered to play longer than an hour or two, youd probably eventually run into a machine called BET-C. Shes a walking tank fortress, yet the parasites on Hoxxes still infected her circuits and make her a make or break mission boss.

And the little mini mules you see on some missions? Apparently Management mustve tried sending all dwarves out to avoid situations like BET-C, but ended up with alot more lost MULES than was proftable because so many dwarves just didnt have the backup to deal with the nasties. Maybe now their method is a little mix of both so that parasites can be kept off the machines, and the machines are at a proper level to help the dwarves finish missions more reliably?

I mean, your argument here is basically that grind doesn't exist because you enjoy the game. And yeah, I enjoy the game too, but that doesn't mean grind isn't a thing. You still have to get to level 15 on each class to get the alternate primary, and then 18 for the secondary. You still need to promote to unlock all the things promotion unlocks. Just because we're happy to play the game doesn't mean there's no grind.
Now if you say there's not much grind then I'll agree with you, but acting like there's none at all is wrong. If there was none then we wouldn't have levels or resources or anything like that. Just start with everything. That'd be 100% grind free. And also kinda weird probably.

Having a progression system does not imply grind. Our definitions differ, as I already stated. Everyone and their dog will have a different opinion on what, exactly, grind means.

We could go on some offrail tangent and define the word over several posts, but I don't view that as a productive endeavor.
