How to get overclocks that I actually want
All the overclocks I get are beards or weapons for classes that I don't want to play as

Is there any strategy I can use to get something that :gasp: would actually be useful to classes I enjoy playing? Mainly scout and driller.

Or, do I just have to burn through all of these junk overclocks so that the game has no choice left but to start giving me what I don't have?

Far as I know, they're all random. You just have to keep trying.

You have to. You only get a choice of three after machine events.
When you use a matrix core on a machine event you get a choice between cosmetic or overclock, and what class it'll be for. Only 3 choices so no guarantee you'll have the option to pick an overclock for a specific class but it makes targetting a specific one much easier.

Otherwise yeah exhaust the drop pool since there are no duplicates.
Also remember that cosmetic cores won't ever drop in a weapon core drop, unless you have all overclocks in the game, and you can target those (2nd stage of DD/EDD completion reward, weekly core hunt) for guaranteed weapon overclocks.
thanks guys

I wonder if there is some method to the madness where playing as class A biases the drops towards class B

It seems when playing driller, the vast majority of drops/rewards are for gunner. Playing as scout, I seem to get engineer based loot.

Obviously this isn't scientific, just an observation I made. I had thought that it was encouragement to play different classes or something.

Also, thank god that there are no duplicate drops...what a relief

Yeah it feels like it but its really just random, after 3-4 weeks suddenly I got lots of desired stuff.

That's probably just that mentality where you're seeing things and patterns because you're looking for them.
it is pure random
there is nothing you can do to influence it

anything that seems like it might be manipulating your odds is pure coincidence - playing X class will not get you more drops for said class
Play the game. Stop wanting specific ones. The more you want it, the more the universe will deny you

Play as all the classes, flexibility is great. Overclocks (except first stage blank matrix cores from deep dives) are random so it's best to either save up cores or spend them when you think your luck is right.
Sadly you have little say in the matter. I got the coveted Lead Storm OC for the Gunner as my second last OC.
Most of the OC's are over hyped anyways. What you imagine will be some game changing stat won't be that great in actual play. I know, I have all the everythings in the game lol

You just have to keep unlocking them until you get all the ones you want. I've almost maxed the perk for forge levels and still haven't gotten all the ones I want to use. The good news is that unlike most crafting games; you do not draw any duplicates. This means each unlock, even if you don't want it, is reducing the total, which means the chance of drawing everything left is going up. I hate crafting games that do duplicates on top of randoms, which means you might very well NEVER see the things you want. They then allow you to scrap the useless duplicates back for parts at a huge loss. It's really insulting.
Play enough and you will get it all, its random whether you get the good stuff early or not ~ i had to put up with my friends getting the great AC ones well before i got them

That depends on the OC. There are some like sticky fuel or big bertha or ice storm that are nearly new weapons.
you just simply can't
