Emotes. I can take it or leave it I guess. But the day they take the V key and attach a menu to it is the day this game dies.
The mission success emotes could be re-purposed as in-game emotes, though. I don't see anything wrong with that.
Combine that with the pointer and you've got a pretty robust communication system that should let you convey most things without text or voice.
Fine with this, but the instant gratication of tapping V and with the instant salute needs to stay. You tap V to instantly convey approval, thank you, "that's hilarious". It means anything you want it to. It's perfect right now.
